Y/n's POV

Both Steve and Sam were able to disengage the helicarriers but when it came down to me doing so, I ran into an old friend.

"Y/n, just disengage the helicarriers and get out of there, we only have a few minutes until targets are acquired" Steve said through my earpiece.

I was looking down at the ground so I didn't see the figure in front of me, I was about to respond to Steve when I looked up.

In front of me was James, James Buchanan Barnes. The man I love, correction, loved.

Why I say that is based on his eyes. Back then they were full of happiness and joy. They were warm, whenever I looked into them I felt at home. Now, the complete opposite cold and harsh, whatever spark was in them when we saw each other on the bridge was lit out, before his eyes killed every woman walking along the streets of Brooklyn. And now there was nothing like an empty pit of despair.

"Y/n? Do you copy?" Steve asked on the other line

"Yeah, yeah just there are a few complications" I told him

"Complications? What kind of complications?" He asked in a frantic tone

I ignored him and stared Bucky in his eyes, his empty emotionless eyes.

"Bucky, whoever you are now. You aren't anything like you were back then"

He stands there, not moving a muscle.

I felt my emotions get the best of me as tears started to sit in my eyes glossing them over, "please, please don't make me do this."

I knew he wouldn't say anything, he looked at me like he didn't even know who I was. Me, the woman he claimed to love. Whatever hydra had done, they did it well. He was nothing like what he was before. And I was going to have to live with that.

I threw my shield at Bucky and after no effect we got into a fight with each other. A fight, between me and the man I loved, never in a million years did I think I would have to fight him, actually fight him. As we fight I somehow manage to get the chip to the system before being attacked again and the chip falls down to the bottom of the ship, he jumps down to get it when I do and when he grabs it first I grab the bear spray from my back pocket and spray it in his eyes causing him to drop the chip. I climbed up to the system when Bucky started shooting at me, since his vision was blurry his aim was quite awful, he shot at me twice, missing each time except for the time when he shot at my shoulder. I howled out in pain but still managed to put the chip into the system.

Once the chip was accepted I could hear Steve yell, "alright now Y/n get out of there"

"Maria, fire now" I said resting under the stand

"But Y/n-" she said

"I said, fire now!"

Maria must've done as told because I felt the ship shake and the sound of blasters filled the air and shots were fired destroying the ship. I assumed this was where I was going to die, I looked over the edge to see Bucky under a piece of metal. I grabbed my baton which was still in the shape of a shield and hopped down to the old man.

With his help, we pushed off the metal bar letting him escape. He jumped up, didn't thank me which was a little rude not gonna lie, he looked at me face to face again with no emotion.

"You love me." I said to him, gasping for air

"No I don't!" He says at me, trying so hard not to be who he once was,

"Bucky, you've loved me ever since we were little"

He strikes me across the face, somehow I had no reaction to it. A super soldier just hit me in the face and it didn't even hurt. What did that mean?

"Your name is James Buchanan Barnes." I continued

"Shut up!"

"And you hate when I call you that." I drop my shield down to the water below, "I'm not gonna fight you, you're my one true love"

He pushes me to the ground, hitting me over and over again, feeling no pain. "And your my mission" he says in between punches"

I spit blood out of my mouth and say, "Then finish it. Because I love you."

Because I loved him.

His memory must have come back because he stopped hitting me and stared straight into my eyes. But this Tim his gaze was different, like he had remembered something.
