Drawn to His Flame

A while ago, I asked Shell to get my clothes from my unit but when she came back, I received some news instead.

"What?" Agad din akong napatayo habang naguguluhang nakatingin kay Shell. I was examining her face to see if there were any traces that she was only bluffing but I couldn't find any. The agitated expression she's been wearing the entire morning remained plastered across her features so I gulped hard.

Sino ba naman ang hindi? I would be like her too if a friend of mine shamelessly disturbed my sleep and barged into my room at dawn because he had nowhere to go after walking out of his own unit.

God! Bakit ba ako nag-inarte kanina?

Shell shrugged at me and rolled her eyes heavenward like she's tired of my existence. "Sabi ni Treyton siya na raw mag-aadjust. Bumalik ka na raw doon dahil aalis na siya. Ang drama-drama raw kasi ng ka-roommate niya kaya hindi niya matagalan."

My nose crinkled because of what I heard. "Shell! Seryoso ako!" hinaing ko dahil halata sa ngisi ng kaibigan ko ngayon na pinagtitripan niya ako.

Shell chuckled before sitting on the sofa in front of me. "I'm serious as well, Reg. Bakit ba kasi walang araw kayong hindi nag-aaway? Talo niyo pa ang aso't pusa," she said with a hint of amusement in her voice.

"Pero get your butt up there na. I really think he's leaving because I caught him packing his things," dagdag niya.

Napakibit-balikat ako bago lumapit sa kanya. "Sigurado ka bang mga gamit niya ang nililigpit niya? What if those things were actually mine? What if he's planning to dispose my stuff somewhere? Sa sama ng ugali ng lalaking 'yon ay posible niya iyong gawin sa akin kaya ba—"

I got cut off when a small pillow came flying to my face. "Sa dami ng sinabi mo, isa lang ang naiisip kong solusyon. Just return to your room and I'm sure you'll get the answers you're looking for," Shell suggested before closing her eyes.

May sasabihin sana ulit ako pero inunahan na ako ng huli. "Kung irarason mo sa akin na nahihiya kang magpakita sa lalaking 'yon, then don't. Umakyat ka na roon o sisipain talaga kita palabas."

I sighed loudly. Shell is terrifying when she didn't get enough sleep so I had no choice but to leave. But hell would freeze first before I go back to my unit because I still don't have the guts to even see Treyton after what I had done.

I was passing by the elevator when it opened and I thought I dropped my heart when I saw Treyton in there. He was enveloped in a cold air of violence and the way his eyes came in contact with mine shouts indifference. Kumakabog nang malakas ang puso ko habang pinagmamasdan ko siyang maglakad palabas sa elevator. But when he passed by me without recognizing my presence, I felt a different kind of hurt.

Napalingon ako at nakumpirma kong aalis nga talaga siya dahil sa kanyang dala-dala. Words were forcing their way out of my mouth, joined by the guilt that's tempting me to stop Treyton from leaving. Pero kahit parang may dinaramdam akong mabigat habang pinagmamasdan siyang mawala sa aking paningin ay hinayaan ko na lang iyon.

I still don't know the real reason why Treyton came back after I offered him to but seeing him leave now made me think that maybe, this is what's bound to happen. At baka ang pag-alis niya ang senyales na hahayaan na niya ako at babalik na sa ayos ang lahat kaya sa tingin ko ay hindi ko na siya kailangang pilitin na manatili pa dahil ito naman ang mas makabubuti sa aming dalawa.

Mabilis na lumipas ang mga linggo. My classmates and I got busier each passing day but I was able to manage well because an invisible weight I was bearing before had vanished. Nabawasan na ang mga alalahanin ko dahil simula noong araw na umalis si Treyon sa unit ko ay hindi na niya ako ginambala pa.
