27: Funeral Plans part 1

I get up the day after Al's passing and go to my kitchen to make breakfast for my unit before they arrive. I make some pancakes and bacon and as the first batch of pancakes come off the gridle there's a knock at my door. I go open it and it's Merideth.

"Hey, how are you holding up?" I ask and hug her

"Okay, I cried the majority of last night wishing Jay was there so I could hold my baby," She replies 

"I felt that way only in the uncle position and I cried for maybe half the night," I tell her

Merideth and I walk to the kitchen so I can finish cooking breakfast before everyone else gets here. Hailey and Adam were the next people to arrive, then Kevin and Kim, Platt and Mouch, and finally Mouse and Jay. Mouse looks kinda okay like he actually got sleep while Jay looks like death warmed over. 

"What happened last night?" I ask Mouse

"A lot of crying, he kept asking for his mom, but thats impossible unless he was talking about Merideth and after awhile I gave up on comforting him and went to sleep," Mouse replies

"Alright, you go sit down, someone else can take Jay for awhile while we eat and talk funeral plans," I tell Mouse

"Thanks," Mouse says and sits at the table with everyone else

Jay curls up on Kevin's lap and eats one single pancake, but that's okay.  After breakfast we move to the living room and talk memories with Al before everything turns real and reality hits.
