2: It keeps getting worse

I feel bad for leaving Jay so quickly this morning. I'm thinking about what I can do to make it up to my baby brother when my pager goes off. Oh yay, an ambulance. I rush down to where the ambulance is and it's the victim of another car bombing, but it's not just anyone, it's Lilly Anderson, Jay's childhood and adulthood bestfriend.

"Alright, what do we have here?" I ask

"Car bombing victim, collasped lung, head injury, and minimal burns." The paramedic responds

"How does she only have minimal burns?" Connor asks

"She wasn't in the car, just near it." Another paramedic replies

I look down at Lilly when she touches my wrist.

"T-tell J-J-Jay, I k-kn-know the s-se-sec-secret." She coughs out, blood flecking her lips 

"Get her into the OR now." I demand

On the way to the OR Lilly started coughing up more and more blood, things aren't looking good for her right now. I look over at Connor and he gets  the clear message to get the tube.

"Lilly, I have to put this tube down your throat and I want you to know that it may never come out." I speak

"I'm gonna die before you get me put under." She responds and continues coughing up blood

She's right and I know she is, that's why when the monitors go flat, we make no effort to resuscitate her. Ethan calls time of death and Connor and I walk to the locker room to change into our civilian clothing.

"Can I still come over tonight or do we have to cancel again?" Connor asks me 

Against my better judgment, I tell Connor that he can still come over tonight and watch movies. All of  a sudden April rushes in the locker room.

"Whoa, where's the fire?" Connor asks

She points at me.

"Jay's here, he's crying the doctors lounge and he's holding something, but I don't know what it is and he won't talk." She tells me

"Crap! Connor, you can still come over tonight but things are gonna be weird." I say

He nods and I rush to the doctors lounge. 

"Oh baby boy," I say crouching down to my brother

He's not talking so he must be only a few months old at this point. He makes grabby hands at me and I pick him up and walk out to my car. Setting him in the passenger seat, I buckle him in and pop his paci in his mouth until we get home.
