Isabella

For the first time in weeks, I felt genuinely happy. Giovanni was back home now and all he had to focus on was recovering. We didn't have to deal with any unnecessary drama anymore. There was no more Casey and no more baby. A part of me felt bad for Casey - she was pregnant and scared to do this alone but another part of me was just relieved that it wasn't my problem to deal with anymore. Everything was back to how it was supposed to be.

Giovanni and I together again

I couldn't help the smile on my face as I waved goodbye to Alvaro and Penelope as they dropped me outside my apartment. I needed to pack enough for the next few days. I wasn't going to want to leave his side. The worst was over now but I just wanted him to recover and all would be well in the world again. Reyna and Katrina had gone away with their parents to celebrate New Years and both significant others had gone with them. They extended the offer for me to join but I couldn't leave Giovanni so they understood when I politely declined to join. I made it upstairs and pushed through my door as my phone started to buzz in my back pocket. I closed the door behind me and pulled my phone out

Lorenzo

I sighed. I hadn't returned his calls in days since Giovanni's accident. It wasn't an intentional move on my side, I was just focused on so many other things. I couldn't ignore him forever though so I answered and brought it my phone to my ear

"Lorenzo, hi,"

"Hey, Izzy," he said, "It's been a while, how have you been?"

We went through the small talk quite quickly. I was careful not to give too much away since I knew how Lorenzo felt about Giovanni. He was my friend though and I didn't want to be rude.

"Well, I'm glad I finally got a hold of you, I wanted to see if you had any plans tomorrow evening?"

"For New Year's Eve?"

"Yes, there is this great party that they're having close to the beach and I really wanted you to join. It could be really fun,"

I couldn't help but feel bad. Even though I knew we were just friends, Lorenzo had made it very clear how he feels about me and I had to be honest with him.

"I actually have plans," I murmured

"Oh, you do?" He was surprised

"Yes,"

The line was silent for a moment

"With Giovanni?" He finally asked

"Yes," I replied, "Lorenzo, so much has happened over the last few days. Giovanni was in a car accident and he found out he wasn't the father of Casey's baby and it-,"

He interrupted me, "Hold on, did you just say he's not the father?"

"Yeah, turns out Casey was lying,"

His silence on the other end spoke volumes and I knew that wasn't what he wanted to hear.

"So, are the two of you back together now?"

I didn't want to say it. I felt bad about saying it. I know I didn't owe Lorenzo anything but I couldn't help the compassion I felt towards him. He had been there for me in a time when I really needed someone. He was always willing to help and did his best to keep me distracted from everything going on. I couldn't help but feel bad that it didn't plan out the way he was clearly hoping it would have but I couldn't reciprocate his feelings. Not when Giovanni had my heart.
