"Wakey wakey," Scorpius said, poking and prodding Albus who was only just stirring. It was morning, outside the sun was rising and casting a warm glow across the water's surface down by the beach. Fresh rays shone through the boy's guest room window and it was proving to be a beautiful day. As it should be, Scorpius thought, Albus's birthday has to be the best day.
"What time is it?" Albus groaned, attempting to pull a pillow over his face. Scorpius was prepared for this move however, he'd seen him do it so many times and he was able to pull the pillow out of Albus's tired fist with ease.
"It's birthday breakfast time!" Scorpius said brightly, shaking Albus's shoulders. He watched Albus pause and sniff the air, Scorpius knew if he smelled bacon he would sit up.
"Is that..."
"Bacon? Duh."
"Alright then." Albus said, opening his eyes as he sat up warily, hoping Scorpius was the only person in the room. To his pleasure, it was only his boyfriend there beside him who sat a plate on his lap which was filled with pancakes, bacon, and eggs.
"You know I can't eat all this!" Albus chuckled down at the plate, the sight of so much food made him almost sick and he considered, for a moment, not eating anything at all.
"Some is for me, obviously." Scorpius said, brandishing a fork from his pocket.
"Did Molly make this?" Albus asked, taking in a mouthful of pancake, it was delicious.
"No, your dad did...but he asked me to bring it up to you, didn't want to make a fuss about it," Scorpius said, looking up at Albus who ceased all chewing, "It's sweet, he said he knew it was your favorite birthday breakfast." Scorpius continued.
"I mean...it is but I didn't realize he noticed." Albus replied, slowly resuming consumption while his head still swam with visions of his father waking up early just to make him food for his birthday. He swore he could feel his heart grow in his chest.
"I brought you your favorite tea also-"
"Scorrrp." Albus whined.
"What? I told them it was for me! You're so strange, what british people don't like tea?"
"You know that James always makes fun of me for liking tea more than coffee!" Albus groaned while Scorpius rolled his eyes and handed Albus a steaming mug of tea-- earl grey with two sugars and a splash of milk.
"Well nobody else cares that you like tea." Scorpius said, casting Albus an amused smirk.
"Try saying that after getting boiling tea poured on you by your brother when you're 13 years old-"
"-I've heard the story!" Scorpius said, holding up his hands quickly, "Anyways, you're so cute when you whine," he said, pushing out his bottom lip to mock Albus's pouting, "Happy birthday, my love." he leaned forward and pecked his boyfriend adoringly on the cheek.
"Thanks." Albus smiled down at his lap, feeling warmth spread throughout his face, sourced from the place that Scorpius had just kissed. The two boys nearly finished the plate of breakfast before announcing that they both couldn't eat another bite.
"So, what do you want to do to start off your day?" Scorpius asked, admiring Albus's drowsy eyes and flushed morning cheeks.
"Mmmsleep, forever." The brunette said, slumping back onto his pillows before holding his arms out.
"Albussss," Scorpius said with disapproval--yet obliging to Albus's request and falling into the boy's arms, "It's your birthday!"
"You know how I feel about my birthday." Albus grumbled while squeezing Scorpius tight like he was a teddy bear. He felt the blonde turn in his arms until they were nose to nose.
