Miles
I opened my eyes and squinted, trying to adjust to the fluorescent lighting of the hospital and sunlight beaming in through the window. I saw both Li and Arson sitting in hospital chairs beside the bed I laid in. It was weird seeing them both there, Li staring at the floor with a Styrofoam cup in hand and Arson slouched on his phone. My whole body felt sluggish, I was just happy I couldn't feel the pulsing in my leg and abdomen anymore. They hadn't noticed that I was awake, but I didn't know what to say to reveal that I was conscious. I just stared at them in silence. I don't know why this was so awkward. Eventually Li caught my eyes and they widened.
"Miles!" He said and stood up. Arson looked up at me too, and now I could see bruise forming on the right side of his eye and the dried blood on his lip. What the fuck? Arson got up too to get closer to me and I noticed the cuts and bruising on his fists and knuckles. Who had he gotten in a fight with? Both of them leaned over the bed and looked down at me. I don't know how I felt about this right now. After that... embarrassing and awkward... moment with Li seeing him made me want to hide. Especially with Arson right there beside him.
"Are you OK?" Li asked. He looked down at my crippled self with wide eyes. Arson had the same look. Fuck. This was so weird.
"Yes, I feel fine. The drugs are good." I said and grinned. Arson rolled his eyes. I couldn't stop staring at his swollen face.
"Are you OK?" I asked and furrowed my eyebrows. He looked confused and then nodded.
"Oh yeah, I'm totally fine. It's nothing." He shook it off and wouldn't elaborate. But the cuts on his knuckles said otherwise. I would have to ask him later when Li wasn't here anymore. Arson then turned and sat on the bed. Li looked awkward so he just moved to the foot of the bed. Arson then looked at Li and back to me.
"So, I have something to say. Umm, when I got here Li was telling me," Arson started, I froze. Had Li told him about our embarrassing kiss? Oh no.
"Well, he told me a lot of things but firstly he said he heard the nurse person calling Rebekah, I guess she still is your emergency contact. Did Hazel never change it?" Arson dragged on. Fuck. I hoped Rebekah wasn't coming.
"Clearly not. Fuck How long was I under?" I asked. Rebekah probably wouldn't come anymore. Actually, did she have to sign to let me leave? "And how long am I stuck here?" I don't know why they couldn't just give me all the details. A nurse then walked in interrupting our conversation. She started talking to me about lame medical stuff and gave me some other drugs or something. I wasn't really paying attention. She finally left and Li opened his mouth.
"You had a minor surgery to remove the bullet and like tissue damage repair or whatever and that was like an hour and then you've been chilling here knocked out for like 2 hours ish. And the nurse said you would have to be here like a week." He said and patted my leg. His hand sent shivers up my leg, but they were interrupted by the numbing of part of my body. Arson just nodded and looked down at me.
"Okay, I don't know why you haven't asked about Elijah. I told the police person at the hospital and then Wren had texted you saying he was in custody." Li said and shook his head. He patted my feet again, "anyways, now that you're up I should go. I have a lot of catchup work due this week and tomorrow." He nodded at me and then slipped out of the room. I let out a breath I didn't know I had been holding in. Arson had heard me sigh. He just narrowed his eyes at me and then his face returned normal.
"So, who you'd get in a fight with? Occupy my mind with something else other than this." I shrugged; this whole drama made my stomach flip. Who knew what? And what did those know? Arson looked at me and then awkwardly looked away. What the hell was that about?
