Eliza

I looked through the window of James' car at Miles who was talking to Winter and Jordon. Miles was awkwardly holding their hands and I was starting to cringe watching this. I stepped out of the car and swung my bag over my shoulder. James was leaning against the car smoking and talking on the phone with her parents. I looked at my phone and realized that class was about to start. I waved goodbye and walked towards the building. I saw Miles kiss Jordon on the cheek and stopped in my stop. Miles then awkwardly ran off. That was so weird. As I passed Winter and Jordon, I overheard them talking.

"That was odd." Winter laughed.

"Don't ruin this moment for me, I mean the kiss was 3 years too late but 14-year-old me would've died for that moment. Why is he so fucking hot?" Jordon laughed then leaned into Winter.

"Stop, you're going to make me jealous." Winter laughed. I looked away and kept walking.

I reached my English class and dragged myself to my desk. Wren was sitting in her spot next to mine, her eyes glued to her phone. I took my spot and grabbed my books from my bag, setting them on the desk.

"Who are you texting?" I leaned over and asked her. The teacher walked into the room and set his books on his desk.

"I am texting Elijah. He is being all apologetic this morning." Wren said. She was chewing on a pencil and did not look up at me when answering.

"Fuck, Wren. Just drop him, he is fucking awful. If only you knew how many people, he sleeps with every week." I said and rolled my eyes.

"Fuck you, Eliza. And I asked him, so I already know. 4 others on average." She answered as if I was the one getting put in my place.

"Wren, that is embarrassing for you not me. 4 is 4 too many. Whatever, not my problem when you get an STD from your boyfriend of a year." I said and turned away from her. The teacher began the lesson. The whole time all I could think about was August. On Monday evening she had forgiven me easily and we had spent the night by the pier on the river leading to the ocean. She was busy with her grandparents yesterday so we couldn't hang out, but I was seeing her tonight. I was worried she was mad at me because she hadn't texted me yesterday at all. She did say she was busy but still, I usually got a text at least.

At lunch Wren, James, Perri, Tau and I sat in our usual spot under the trees in the school yard. Perri laid their head on Tau's legs, James leaned on one of the trees smoking and Wren sat against a tree, once again on her phone.

"If you want to talk to Elijah so much make him come over here, like where the fuck are you at right now, Wren." Tau shot at her. Her obsessiveness of her phone had been annoying all of us all day.

"Fuck off, Tau," Wren replied, still staring at her phone.

"We are all thinking that Wren." James added, dropping her cigarette and squishing it with her foot. The whole area now smelt like cigarettes. James squatted then sat on her butt against the same tree. Wren put her phone down and glared at us at all. We all decided to glare back because she was being annoying. She rolled her eyes then stopped glaring.

"You guys need to leave me alone." She pouted.

"No." Was all James said and for the rest of lunch we refused to talk about anything Elijah related.

At the end of lunch, I walked with Wren and James to our lockers since they were near each other. I noticed Miles at my locker.

"Why is Miles Page at your locker?" James asked.
