Miles
I had gone to school for the rest of the week. It had been shitty. The game on Friday had been cancelled because of the shooting, even though I was the only one who was affected by that. The school wanted to have a short break and make sure everything was OK before things returned to normal, as if that made sense. So, there wasn't any practices this week. The coach insisted that people just work out on their own time this week. I wasn't allowed to exercise for a few weeks. During school most people just ignored me or stared at me weirdly. Being this pariah had been very difficult and different from what my life was two weeks ago. Before the shooting. None of the boys on the team addressed me. Even Jordon and Winter. That kind of hurt. I knew we weren't friends, but they could've said something to me. They knew I had no one. I felt bad that Arson was taking the heat for this whole thing. The boys still talked to him, but he was put in an awkward position. At lunch, when I sat alone with Arson at the table near the doorway instead of in one of the middle tables, I saw Christina and Mercury all cuddled up. Their PDA was fucking gross, and that is coming from me. At that table sat Christina, Mercury, Carlos, Cory, Joaquin, Kelsey, and Julia. I couldn't tell if I was envious, or I was disgusted. I had thought Eliza would have been hanging out with us at lunch, but she had decided to make out with them the night before I returned to school. Bitch. And I couldn't sit with her because of James and Wren. I felt bad for Arson. Stuck sitting with me alone. I looked for Li every day in the lunchroom, but he was never there. He had said yes to my offer and invited me to his house on Saturday night, tonight. I didn't really know what to expect for that. Being invited to his house felt kind of weird to me. Like was his family there?
Later that night I got Arson to drive me to his house. I looked over at Arson and his moppy curls. His eyes sparkled in the setting sunlight. He had just showered and was wearing a dress shirt and pants. Where was he going? He looked gorgeous and now I was wishing I was going to see him and not Li. But then when I thought of Li, I changed my mind again. Maybe Li would make my crush on Arson disappear.
"Where are you going? After you drop me off. You look... very cleaned up." I said and eyed the jewelry he had on his wrist. What was this new Arson?
"Oh my god, Miles. Umm, well since you asked my parents are making me go to this stupid dinner at the golf course." He spoke. The golf course? Haha.
"Jesus Christ, Arson. Look at you. Did you dad make you dress up all fancy like that too?" I asked eyeing his whole outfit once again.
"I mean... kind of..." he dragged on the of. "Like yes they always want me to wear nice clothing. But there is this girl there and....." He trailed on and kept his eyes on the road.
"A girl? A girl that is making you dress up like that. I have never seen you look this... this... fancy? before." I was shocked. I couldn't believe Arson was looking like this for a girl. He was wearing all this to impress a girl. I mean it was going to work but. He had never been that serious about anyone in his life. And now here he was beside me all dressed up.
"Okay, sorry I haven't told you, but you had a lot going on and I didn't want to chat you up about this. And I was kind of nervous to see how you'd react to me being so into this girl. Like right now, you are beyond shocked. Anyway, her name is Talia. My dad invited her family over for dinner last week and she is soooo hot. She is nice too or whatever. But we have been talking a bit since and she is going to be there tonight." He went on. I just nodded along.
When he dropped me off at Li's I awkwardly walked to his front door. I was surprised at the size of his house, it was big. It was bigger than big. It was big and was covered in windows. There were no cars in the driveway, and I hoped that meant his parents weren't home because I wasn't trying to meet any parents. I rang the doorbell and waited for him to answer the door. After a few moments he answered the door and I eyed him up and down. He looked hot. He was wearing a tight shirt and sweatpants and his eyes were surrounded by purple eyeliner. He gestured for me to come inside so I did. I kicked off my boots I was wearing and kept my eyes on him.
