Miles
The game was tonight and all day I was shaking in my seat. We had to win tonight if we wanted to continue, and if we lost, this could be many of the boys' last lacrosse game ever. It was lunch now and I was sitting outside with Eliza near the steps. Arson was sitting with the boys. There was a team lunch, and I was invited but decided against going. I thought I would ruin the conversation just because some of the team was still hating. I also didn't have it in me to waste my time hanging out with them. I never asked Li if he went or not. Eliza had been telling me how she made up with both Wren and James and how she thought they were good. She also told me about how James had found about August. Eliza stupidly now knew that August was in town and this could ruin things.
"Your leg is shaking, what's up?" Eliza asked and stared at my bouncing knee. I looked over at her with big eyes.
"I am nervous for tonight." I just shrug. Eliza wouldn't get it.
"Oh," She just said and looked down at her shoes. She seemed better today about August. She wasn't sulking. This was good because I needed to make sure she wasn't sulking at the party. But this could mean she was moving on from August, now was not the time for that.
"Did you talk to Li?" She asked and looked back up at me.
"No, I am terrified."
"He likes you; he always looks so jealous." She said and lifted her eyebrows.
"He looks jealous. That doesn't mean he actually is. I am too scared. I would rather wait for him to make the first move. It is easier when they make the first move, like you." I winked at her and she groaned and bent her torso forward so her face was near the ground.
"Stop, we agreed to put that in the past." She groaned. I poked her side. The door to the school swung open so my eyes were drawn to the sound. I turned my head and saw Kelsey and Julia walking out. Fuck. I quickly turned my head back to Eliza so maybe they wouldn't notice me.
"Miles." Julia said, I felt her presence behind me. I turned my head and looked up at the two girls standing behind me. Why did they have to stop to talk to me?
"Hi," I said and just stared at them with an empty expression.
"Why are you lingering? What do you want?" Eliza rudely said to them. I turned to look at her. Eliza looked at them with indifference.
"Eliza!" I whispered and pushed her arm. She rolled her eyes at me.
"Sorry, we, umm, Mercury told us to tell you that you should go join the team lunch." Kelsey spoke and looked down at me with hesitation. I furrowed my eyebrows.
"What?" I responded, confused.
"Well, Mercury told us to get you to come to the lunch. Not for any reason. He just said you should come, maybe your presence will make people more comfortable or something." Kelsey went on and put her hands in the pockets of her denim shorts.
"Oh, and he told us to ask you since we were already going out for lunch and he didn't want Carlos and Cory to suspect something if he came and asked you." Julia said and nodded down at me.
"Suspect something?" Eliza cut in, confused. I looked at her.
"I'll explain later." I quickly said and then turned back to look at the girls. I nodded and thought about whether I should go or not. I shouldn't ditch Eliza.
