Eliza
Even with the windows down the smell of sweat wrapped around me. I was the lucky one because Perri was squished beside Li and Miles in the back. At least I got my own personal bubble in the passenger side seat. I looked back at the three in the backseat and saw Miles' hand in Li's. I was going to vomit. Perri awkwardly sat there beside them, moving their eyes between the couple and the opened window.
"Miles, is it OK if I invite Talia?" Arson said and looked back at him in the rearview mirror.
"Yeah, sure." Miles shrugged, keeping his eyes on Li's cheek.
"Good, because I already did." Arson shrugged. The car went back to silence. We all just sat there glancing around. Arson finally turned on the radio, so music blared through the speakers.
"Turn that off." Miles said.
"Why?" Arson asked.
"The radio is annoying, Eliza, plug in your phone." He spoke. Why did he care? It was a five-minute drive.
We finally got to his house and all stood in the front hall.
"We are going to shower in my bathroom. Arson you can go shower in either the shower down here or in the other bathroom upstairs." Miles said and grabbed Li's hand, beginning to drag him upstairs.
"Wow, I don't get an invite to this shower party. Rude." Arson joked and Miles gave him the finger without looking at him. Arson just shrugged and walked over to one of the bathrooms on the main floor with his bag in his hand. Perri and I both walked to the kitchen and sat at the counter.
"Do you want something to eat? I can raid his fridge or something." I suggested and stood up. Perri nodded so I walked over to the fridge. The doorbell rang interrupting me. I instead walked over to the door and went to answer it. When I opened the door James, Wren and Tau all piled into the house. The three of them all had drawstring bags in their hand and were laughing. I wondered if James felt awkward about being here. The crew all piled up in Miles' kitchen and suddenly it was back to what we had months ago. They all grabbed drinks out of their bags and Tau handed me one of his and James handed Perri one.
"Oh! Did you guys hear that August is releasing a surprise song tonight. She fully just announced it out of the blue this morning." Tau announced and once he did, I felt James' eyes on my cheek. I turned to look at her and she just looked at me with wide eyes.
"Oh yeah, I saw her post this morning." Wren announced and went on her phone. She then passed her phone around. When I looked at the picture of the single cover, which was of August sitting in a tree with a red-solo cup in her hand. I read the caption: New song out tonight The Day We Started, available everywhere at 12 AM EST.
I wanted to cry. Was it another breakup song? I didn't need any more hate or another reminder of the past. Her last song already broke me enough. I didn't need another reminder. And she had blocked me and refused to give me closure, yet she kept releasing all these break up songs. Well, I didn't know if The Day We Startedwas a breakup song, but it had to be. Why was she in town though? Was she here just to rub it in my face?
"Oh, cool, so where are Miles, Li and Arson?" James said, trying to change the subject. I looked at her and gave her a shaky smile.
"Oh, they are all showering. We got here like twenty minutes ago so they should all be done soon," Perri shrugged while taking a sip of their drink. Right on queue Arson walked into the kitchen, his wet curls falling at the side of his face. He smiled when he walked in and leaned on the counter beside James. He was wearing a tight black shirt that stuck to his body. He glanced around at the five of us all holding drinks in our hand and then walked over to the fridge and started to rummage through it. He grabbed a beer and then walked over back to where he had been standing before.
