"Merry Christmas!" Emma exclaims the moment she jumps onto my bed, landing directly on top of me and waking me up from my sleep.

I'm so tired I feel like I need to hibernate.

The past week, Emma has been here and we've been organising everything for my big move. It still hasn't fully hit me yet that I'm moving. After all, it was kind of a spontaneous decision to pack up the life I've started to build here and move it somewhere across the Atlantic Ocean. I never knew I had so much shit. I mean yeah, I've been living in London for over three years but I never realised how much crap I've accumulated until now.

"Merry Christmas." I groan with her still on top of me.

"Get up, get up, get up." She says excitedly, reminding me exactly of what I used to sound like back when I believed in Santa- never mind Santa is definitely real.

"What time is it?" I roll back over, pushing her off of me.

"Eight thirty." she answers way too quickly and I just feel like she's lying.

I reach over and grab my phone, clicking the button so the screen lights up as it turns on. "It's fucking five thirty in the morning!" I exclaim, moving my gaze over to the blinds to see no sunlight peeking through as it usually does when I wake up at eight.

"So..." she trails off in wonder of why I'm making a big deal out of this.

The sun isn't up yet so I shouldn't be either.

"Why are you up? You never- why am I up?!"

"It's Christmas!" Emma practically yells again but I pull the cover all the way up and over my head to block her from my view.

"I have nothing to celebrate this year." my voice comes out extremely muffled as my face is also buried in a pillow underneath the blanket.

"What?" Emma asks because she obviously couldn't hear me.

I put on a fake smile as I throw off the blanket because the reminder that today is Christmas makes me feel sad instead of excited this year. "Let's go downstairs and make breakfast yeah?"

"And then presents?" she asks with enthusiasm.

"Neither of us have presents to open."

"That's not true." she objects. "I got you something. You got me something. The boys got you stuff I'm sure and yesterday a package came from your other friends and I have stuff from my parents and gran."

"Okay fine breakfast then presents." I stand up and run my hand through my hair. "Wait you said a package came for me yesterday?" I ask while rotating my left shoulder to stretch the muscles from sleeping on that one side all night long.

"Oh yeah, while you were out bringing back coffee." she informs me.

"How'd you get it if I wasn't here to sign?" I walk straight into the bathroom and turn on the tap to rinse my face.
