Steve sat next to Natasha and Sam pushing his pancakes around the plate. The last thing he wanted was to eat, not while his sister refused to wake up. Shuri and Wanda, both assured him that she should be awake at any moment, that it was just a waiting game. They had to wait till his sister's body was ready to wake up.
The torment and horrors she had to relive was enough to make anyone crack, the rest of his team had stated multiple times when they thought he wasn't around or couldn't hear. They believed that if it were them, they would never wake up, but it wasn't them, it was his twin. He knew Anya was strong, if anyone could survive the past and walk away from it all with a smile on their face, it would be Anya.
Natasha and Sam had given up on trying to engage him in conversation as had everyone else. Wanda was busy talking to Vision and her brother when she randomly started to smile.
Steve knew he wasn't the only one to pick up on her abnormal behaviour, but before anyone could bring it up, there was a loud bang that seemed to travel through the halls to where they were. A loud scream followed it, one that made everyone jump, all but Steve. For the first time in over a month, there was a smile on his face and light in his eyes.
Ignoring everyone else, he stood up and walked away from the table. The sound of someone running finally reached their ears as they all turned to look at one another.
The screaming had continued, until finally the source of the sound appeared in the entry to the mess hall. Standing there still in a dress he had given Wanda to dress her in was his sister.
She was finally awake.
Her eyes lit up and she continued running at a speed that would have made him jealous, until he saw a chair fly as she past it. She was using her magic to further propel her forward. There was a loud crash as the two Rogers collided, with a force that sent Steve sprawling on the ground.
Those who were still seated started laughing, some more than others. Sam and Clint were among those who found the situation hilarious as they fell off their chairs holding their stomachs, but Steve didn't care. His sister was there in his arms, they were together again.
Tears ran down his cheeks as he held her closer taking in every inch of her face, how her eyes gleamed with happiness and how she turned to poke her tongue out a certain brunette in the entryway.
Rolling his eyes Steve scrambled to his knees, still holding her face as she turned back to him, tears of her own leaking from the corner of her eyes.
"Well, when you said you wanted to join the army, I didn't think it would entail this."
Steve cackled at her comment as a weight was lifted off his shoulders. Anya smiled. "Looks like Erskine chose the right man for the job."
Steve shook his head and pulled her into his arms, which was now an easy feat and returned to his chair, still holding her.
She smiled and nuzzled for a second before she pulled away and pouted when he wouldn't let her go. "Jesus I am not a football! You men need to stop being Neanderthals and let a woman walk on her own two feet."
Bucky laughed as he joined them, Sam moving to another seat allowing the trio to sit together. "What can we say Doll, you are a comfortable, cuddly football."
Bucky's choice of words earned Steve a punch to the arm, to which he complained half-heartedly. Anya just shook her head and stayed cradled in his arms.
