With my heavy eyes, I glared over at the clock on the wall. 5:41 a.m.
I was too worried about Fiona to be able to focus on anything else, sleeping included. I didn't care, though. I had to figure this out, no matter how bad the outcome. The blue light of my cell phone blinded my eyes as I scrolled aggressively through my contacts list.
A. B. C. D. E. F. Fiona.
Since I left, I had never gotten any calls from her. The rest of my family would blow my phone up as I watched it ring. I should have known something was off. I clicked on Fiona's contact and then onto the call icon.
Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring.
"Hi, this is Fiona! Sorry if I missed your call. Leave a message and I'll call back as soon as I can."
Beep.
I felt a lump in my throat as I left the voicemail.
"Uh... Fiona? It's (Y/n). I don't know if this is even your number anymore but I guess I just wanted to hear your voice and that you were okay. Sorry for running away... I shouldn't have left you and Zero behind. But uh—yeah, just get back to me if you can. Bye."
The lump vanished as I stared straight ahead at the beige wall in my bedroom. There was so much on my mind, but it also was sort of blank, like I felt nothing. I had tried so hard to comprehend all the new information I received in the past few days, that my brain practically gave up on trying. I walked over to my mirror to see darkened bags below my eyes. I held eye contact with my reflection for about a full thirty seconds before deciding there was no reason to go to sleep at that point. I would have to get up soon to meet Kurapika and head to work afterward. I put on a white button-up and some black jeans, as well as my shoes, of course. Some concealer was applied, mostly underneath my eyes.
Once enough time had passed, I got into the black Jeep that sat inside the garage. There was absolutely no way I would walk to work after staying up all night. I turned the keys into the ignition and drove over to the diner I planned to meet Kurapika at. As I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed three cars among me. One car was a dull red color and looked relatively old. The second car was silver; it looked just like any conventional car. Then, in a corner, was a black SUV with tinted windows.
I wouldn't be surprised if that one was Kurapika's.
I pulled the keys out and opened the door, stepping out of the car. I let out a long exhale before walking to the entrance of the restaurant. The diner was simple but not at all boring to look at. The atmosphere was homelike and cozy. The tables and chairs were all made out of wood, the lighting was dim, and the employees looked kind.
I scanned the room for any sight of the blonde, but I couldn't spot him. I pulled out my phone, about to send him a text when a voice approached from behind.
"(Y/n)? I wasn't expecting you to be here first," Kurapika said.
"Oh, hey, Kurapika. I've uh... been up for a while and decided to get here early." My reply was followed by a yawn. I blinked, keeping my eyes closed for a few moments before slowly opening them.
"Are you okay? You seem exhausted."
"I'm alright. I'd rather not explain. Can we sit now?"
We took a booth in the corner of the restaurant. It was only 7:15, so there were only a few other customers inside the diner.
"Have you been here before?" Kurapika asked.
"No. First time. You?"
"Same here."
We took a few minutes to decide on what we'd order. I went with some Belgian waffles and bacon. Kurapika chose French toast.
We ate in complete silence for a while before he broke the ice.
"You know, I invited you here to talk. It seems like you can't even think straight. Did you sleep at all?"
I took another bite of my food before responding, "Yeah, I apologize for that. My mind has been messy, you could say. And to answer your question: No, I did not."
"You told me you have work today. Are you sure you can handle that?"
"I told you earlier, I'm fine!" I replied, a clear annoyance in my tone as my fork and knife fell onto the plate. A silence fell over the booth we were seated at.
"I'm... sorry. I can be hot-headed and I'm sleep-deprived. Thank you for your concern. I'll most likely stay home today."
"No need to apologize. I'll be going now. Get some rest, (Y/n)," he said, slipping his arms into his coat.
Well, that went terribly. He must find me rude or annoying at this point considering how much I've snapped at him...
I returned home shortly after Kurapika had left. I dragged myself to my couch and plopped down onto the cushions. As soon as my eyes closed, they didn't open again for six hours.

2:04 p.m. is what the clock on my phone read. A sigh escaped my lips. I didn't go to work or have any other plans. I really didn't have anything else to do for the day.
Antonio... Should I ask him about Fiona? Or about the whole conversation I'd witnessed with my satellite? Maybe it's best to keep my distance, considering how he wants to kill me. But I can't pass up the opportunity to get more information.
I unlocked my cellphone and went to my messages with my brother. The last conversation we'd had was about the note I received on my birthday. Ever since he revealed himself, there wasn't really a point in talking to him. I didn't block or delete his number, though. I'm not that stupid.
Hesitantly, I pressed the call button. It rang about four times before I heard Antonio's voice.
"...(Y/n)?"
"Uh...yes. I saw you crush my Nen ability right after I witnessed a... concerning conversation."
He chuckled. "Yes, and?"
"Why did you deliberately let me hear everything? One minute you say you're going to kill me, and the next you're letting me hear your entire plan? December 31st, huh? Is that not your deadline for bringing me back?" I asked demandingly.
He sighed into his sentence, "(Y/n), there's a lot of things you don't know of."
"Such as?"
"You think I'm just going to tell you? You don't know for a reason. You have two months. Then you'll have to face Mom and Dad. You better get to training."
The call ended.
Why hadn't he included himself in that? Isn't he going to kill me?
...That's if I don't kill him first.
