The weight of something tugging on my shoulder awoke me. I stirred, my brows furrowed, and faced the direction of the source. I groaned, "What?"

"Get up! We have to meet Kurapika later and I wanted to spend time with you and Zero before," Serene voiced into my ear. I huffed and stretched my limbs out before opening my eyes to see an annoyed look on Serene's face. As I sat up, a smile replaced that look.

"What time is it anyway?" I asked as I stepped onto the carpeted floor and walked to the bathroom door.

"Almost ten. I wanna take you to breakfast so you better hurry."

I proceeded to get ready for the day, picking out clothes from Serene's closet. I ended up wearing a low-cut white velvet shirt, dark-wash jeans, and a leather jacket. Then, I did my makeup and hair. As I looked at myself in the mirror, my face saddened at the sight of Kurapika's necklace. Despite how upset I was with him, I sincerely wished things would go back to normal.

When I walked downstairs, I said hello to Valentina and then noticed Serene and Zero waiting for me at the door. Zero shot me a "Hurry up!" look and so I rolled my eyes and followed them out to the navy blue car.

Serene blasted rock music on the way to breakfast. I stared out the window with a bittersweet smile. Shortly, the car pulled into the parking lot of a diner. It seemed to be 1950's themed. We exited the vehicle and made our way inside the building. A waitress greeted us as soon as we entered and sat us in a booth by the window. As I examined the menu in my hand, my eyes began to glaze over. I began to think about the diner Kurapika and I went to when we were just becoming friends. Things were so different then.

"What's the matter, (Y/n)?" Serene's soft voice lulled my thoughts. She and Zero were looking at me with concern.

I masked the look I had worn just a second ago. "Nothing. Just thinking about what to order. What are you guys gonna get?"

Serene gave me a suspicious look, telling me she knew something was wrong, but she didn't continue to nag about it. Zero spoke up, "Probably waffles and bacon."

"That sounds good," I replied with a false smile. The waitress returned and took our order. Shortly, she came out with our food. I ate strawberry pancakes and sipped on a cinnamon-flavored coffee while talking to my best friend and my sibling. Although I did feel melancholic because of the situation with Kurapika, I was very satisfied with the fact I could have simple conversations with Zero, who only recently began to thaw out their resentment for me. It reminded me of when we were younger and the best of friends.

They brushed their short, dark hair out of their face and looked at me. "So what's with that one blonde guy? You seem close with him."

My eyes darted to Serene, who was already looking at me with a smirk. I rubbed the back of my neck. "Uh... well, I kind of like him."

"Kind of?" Serene remarked.

Zero rose an eyebrow and pushed their waffles into their mouth. "It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Why don't you tell him or something?"

"About that... he kissed me the other day and then ran away and said it was a mistake," I explained, feeling embarrassed. "So I think I'm good on that."

They chuckled in surprise and then said in a monotone, "Wow. You must be a really bad kisser."

I scoffed and balled up a napkin before throwing it at Zero. "Shut up."

Zero and Serene began laughing with hilarity. I tried to maintain a scowl but laughter broke through me as well.
