LUCIUS MALFOY GLANCED AROUND before he entered the Room of Requirement where Maddilyn Snape, Milla Parkinson and Regulus Black were waiting.
"Sorry I'm late," Lucius said apologetically. "I was held up."
"It's all good," Milla said, gving the Malfoy Heir a smile.
"So we are decided on who we're bringing in to the Rebellion?" Regulus asked.
"Gareth Greengrass, Narcissa Black, Daisy Parkinson, Alecto and Amycus Carrow, Fatima and Fenwick Fawley, Gary Flint, Rabastan Lestrange, Rayne and Persephone Rosier, Dale Rowle, Sapphire Selwyn, and Yvonne Yaxley," Maddie said, reading from the list the four had compiled earlier.
"Take of the Carrows, they have the Mark and cannot be trusted," Lucius said.
"What about Rabastan?" Milla asked. "His brother and Bellatrix are engaged. He's probably already drawn into that madness."
"No, Rabastan wants the Mark about as much as I do," Regulus responded. "Yvonne Yaxley's brother already has the Mark though."
"She's been disowned for not having the traditional pureblood beliefs," Lucius replied.
"Gary Flint's brother has the Mark, and Gary's on the way to becoming a Death Eater, though," Milla said.
"Milla, are you sure your sister can handle being part of this Rebellion," Maddie piped up. "I've heard her becoming close to Shane Shafiq, who's a confirmed Death Eater."
"She's already part of it, just not officially," Milla said, smirking. "She's getting info from Shafiq."
"Alright, so we're ready to induct them into the Rebellion?" Maddie asked.
"And ready to obliviate them if need be," Lucius said darkly.
DAISY PARKINSON RUBBED HER throbbing head as she came to her senses, glancing around wildly, her wand in hand. "Sorry for the unnecessary precautions," an oddly familiar voice said in an annoyed tone. as a bunch of green and silver robed students looked around their surroundings.
"Before we go any further, anyone who doesn't want to be a part of this, leave now," another voice said. "Or be Obliviated. If we find betrayers, we will root you out."
Daisy looked around, and noticed nobody left. Daisy also noticed that the four in front were wearing hoods so nobody would know their identities. Behind them were a few dozen more hooded figures.
"Then welcome to the Snake Bite Rebellion," one of them said pulling off their hoods. It revealed Daisy's sister, Milla Parkinson.
Most of the incoming Rebellion members were legacies of the founding generation, Daisy noted as the members behind Milla and the three hooded people next to her took of their hoods.
"This is a Rebellion against the Dark Lord. There is a Charm cast so that nothing said here can be passed off to anyone else. This is your last chance to leave," another one of the four said, pulling down their hood to reveal Regulus Black.
"This is our Rebellion, this is our fight. For years we've been playing our part as 'evil Slytherins' but it is time to step out of that stereotype. It is time to fight back," one of the two remaining people said, revealing themselves as Lucius Malfoy.
"This Rebellion is meant to be secret," the last hooded figure said, taking their hood down, revealing Maddilyn Snape. "But always be aware of the Snake Bite."
"And don't think for a moment that we're hiding. We're Slytherins. We're work in the dark, but at the end of the tunnel always comes light," Lucius said.
And at that moment, the popular motto that all children of Slytherin decent knew, was echoed in the room.
"We don't hide. We wait for the perfect time to strike." Daisy was one of the loudest echoing this motto.
WE DON'T HIDE. WE wait for the perfect time to strike. Were the words ringing in Sapphire Selwyn's head. When she was born, she was engaged to Evan Rosier, the older brother of Rayne and Persephone Rosier.
But being part of the Snake Bite Rebellion? This could be her salvation. This could be her saving grace.
She could finally prove she wasn't just some pretty pureblood princess who would sit still and look pretty for her fiance. She wasn't to be underestimated as a pawn in chess. She was the queen on the board. She would get to navigate her own life.
But sometimes, queens must be sacrificed for the greater good. And Sapphire Selwyn had to be careful.
RABASTAN LESTRANGE FINALLY ALLOWED himself to breathe. Would he be able to forge a path not being paved by his parents? Would he finally be able to break free from his brother's shadow?
Rabastan supposed he could. Being brought into the Rebellion gave him so much more freedom. It gave him hope. It gave him courage.
He finally knew, or at least just a bit, how the Sorting Hat worked. Many associated Slytherins as cowards. But no, every House was respected in their own way. The Sorting Hat sorted people into the House it thought they would most thrive in. It was a common misconception, Rabastan realized. For so long, people thought that you had to be brave to be in Gryffindor, or evil to be in Slytherin, kind to be in Hufflepuff or smart to be in Ravenclaw. But it didn't work like that. The only reason the majority of Slytherins were Death Eaters were because they had been told they were evil for so long, they'd started believing it.
But Slytherins weren't evil. They were sly and cunning and ambitious. The Slytherin House protected their own. They did what would help them survive.
Rabastan smiled as the sun went down, signalling the end of the day. And once the sun came up again, it would shine a little brighter in Rabastan's eyes. Because a new day brought new possibilities.
