MADDILYN SNAPE HATED HAVING to do homework and studying for OWLs. Of course, many others could relate to her.

It was only the beginning of the School year, but all the teachers told the students 'If you want to get anywhere in life, you have to pass the OWL exams.' Well... not exactly that harsh, but the students got the gist.

Luckily, Maddie was one of the smartest students in her class, often competing for top spot with Lily Evans and Remus Lupin. However, if the three of them didn't get something, then the whole fifth year was in deep shit.

Maddie was studying silently in the library when somebody dropped their things on her table. "Leave," was all Maddie said. When Maddie was in the library, studying, it was unwise to disturb her. The entirety of Slytherin knew that, unfortunately by trial and error, and the rest of the school caught on rather quickly.

"C'mon, Princess, I want to study with you!" Sirius begged.

"Because you don't know anything with that tiny brain of yours?" Maddie replied, not looking up. "Anyways, can't Lupin help you? He is the smart one of your lot."

"Yeah, but he said he's not going to," Sirius said.

Maddie raised an eyebrow. "What makes you think I will, Black?" Maddie asked.

"Because you whacked me on the head with a book?" Sirius said questioningly. "And you owe me?"

"No," Maddie said flatly.

"C'mon, do you want me to fail in life?" Sirius whined.

"Yes," Maddie replied bitingly, writing something down on a parchment.

"You're not very sympathetic, are you," Sirius said.

"Why should I be? You don't relent on bullying my brother," Maddie said.

"But-" Sirius was about to say something.

"Stop it. I'm not some other girl who wants to talk to you or even associate myself in your vacinity. Go find someone else to 'study' with you," Maddie said, gathering her things and stalking out of the library.

THAT NIGHT, IN DETENTION, the air was tense silence as Maddilyn Snape and Sirius Black worked in harmony to clean the trophy shelves, once again. Maddie had expressed her thoughts on the trophy room to McGonagall with great protest, but did not avail.

Sirius's thoughts were about the witch by the name of Maddie Snape. No matter how infuriating shen could be, she was right. Maddie a girl who fell at his feet because of his name and popularity. Unlike other girls, Maddie wasn't so easy to charm. Sure, he may be handsome, but Maddie saw right through him. Maddie wasn't scared and she didn't cower.

Gryffindors and Slytherins didn't mix. Lions and Snakes don't mix. So why was it so hard to stay away from her?

"THERE ARE RUMOURS THAT you and Sirius Black hooked up," Silver Gray said, plopping down at the Slytherin table.

Both Snape siblings looked up, with varying levels of disgust displayed on their faces.

"What?" They both exclaimed, Severus Snape in anger and Maddilyn Snape in suprise.

"Both Marlene McKinnon and Clover Parkinson claim they saw you... doing stuff," Silver reported.

"That's just... no," Maddie said, curling her lip in distaste. "Why would I be with a guy who has a strict date and dump policy? And a Gryffindor no less."

"Both McKinnon and Parkinson are gossip queens anyways," Leo Reese said, sitting down next to Silver. "They may be the most informed, but they also twist the viewpoint of anything they see."

Meanwhile, at the Gryffindor table, Sirius was also getting interrogated. "Pads? Are you fucking crazy?" James asked.

"How exactly would I be crazy?" Sirius replied, turning from where he was watching a certain Slytherin.

"Apparently you and Maddie Snape are dating," James said, crossing his arms.

"What?" Sirius asked, facing James.

"Marlene McKinnon and Clover Parkinson both have been spreading that you were screwing around with each other in detention," James said.

"I'm going to hex them," Sirius growled.

"Too late," James said, pointing to where Clover Parkinson was in a full body bind curse and Marlene was laughing courtesy to a Laughing Hex.

Judging from the smug smirk on Maddie's face, it had been her handiwork.

"You don't like her, do you?" James asked, doubt crossing his face.

"No, I don't," Sirius lied.

IT WAS JUST FATE that Maddilyn Snape and Sirius Black got another week's worth detention.

Maddie had gotten in trouble for cursing a Gryffindor third year and Sirius got in trouble for pranking a Slytherin fourth year.

They both walked into the Detention room at the same time. Maddie gave Sirius a glance, and then sat down. Two minutes later, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew walked in, finding Maddie and Sirius sitting on opposite sides of the classroom. "Where's Lupin?" Maddie said, curling her lip. "He's the only one who I can tolerate."

"Shut it, Snape," James said, glaring at the onyx haired girl.

"What did you guys do to land yourself detention?" Maddie asked.

"Why?" James asked suspiciously.

"Pranked a fourth year," Sirius said.

"Not suprised," Maddie said. "Though, throwing dungbombs at each other are old news."

"And you know that how?" James asked Maddie.

"I've done more pranks than you know," Maddie said, smirking. "For example, remember that herd of elephants?"

"No!" Sirius and James said in surprised.

"That was you?" Peter asked.

"I will neither confirm or deny," Maddie said, shrugging.

"No way!" The three Marauders said in surprise.

Maddie shrugged.

When Professor McGonagall came, the four worked in efficient silence, finishing quickly.

"THEY EXPECT US TO go to a Halloween Ball," Maddilyn Snape groaned. "Who spiked Dumbledore's drink? I bet it was the Marauders."

Severus Snape smirked. "You know, Mads, most girls are fawning over ball gowns," Severus teased.

"Shut up, Sevvy," Maddie growled. "Anyways, boys are a waste of my time."

Regulus Black, a fifth year, and Sirius's slightly younger brother, sat next to the two Snapes. "Hey, Black," Maddie said nonchalantly.

"Snape and Snape," Regulus replied smoothly.

Maddie went back to ignoring the world, when Remus Lupin walked up to her. "Hey, Snape," Remus said. "Professor Marrowes told me you had the Astronomy reading he assigned?"

Maddie's eyes lit up in understanding. "Sorry, boys, but this Gryffindork requires my help, see y'all around," Maddie said, dragging Remus out of the Great Hall. Maddie looked around, searching for any bystanders. When she saw none, she looked back at the lycanthrope. "What do you want? Do you need help with your time of the month?"

"No," Remus said, looking nervous. "Actually, I w-was wondering if you'd l-l-like to go to the b-b-ball with me? As friends of course."

"Sure, I'd love to," Maddie said, giving Remus a warm smile.
