I wrap tape around my knuckles thoughtfully, remembering how Agent Hill had taught me to do it. I don't actually need it, but she claimed it would help me assimilate in Midgardian culture. See, after I had recovered from my plight with Malekith, I came to Midgard. At first, I stayed with Darcy to understand more of Midgard, but then S.H.I.E.L.D approached me, no surprise there, to ask me to come work with them. I had missed action, and so I said goodbye to Darcy, had her notify Thor, and went with the agents back to their base in Washington D.C.
For the past few months I've been guided by Maria Hill. Midgardian fashion, speech, technology. Even going as far to as to help me live in an apartment on my own. It's confusing and glorious and slightly terrifying. Still, as much as I've enjoyed being here, I've been feeling quite homesick. I think more so I've been missing the home that no longer exists there, the one with my mother and brother there too, but I can't entirely shake it. I tear off the tape as if I'm frustrated and decide to go for a run rather than break another punching bag. I throw a tank top over my sporty bra before leaving the apartment into the dark morning.

"On your left." I hear a male voice call from behind me. It shocks me a bit. I must be running pretty slowly if a mortal man can pass me. The innate competitor in me speeds up. I hear the person behind me speed up as well. I get a little faster, and so do they. I'm amazed to say the least, though I still haven't lost my breath and I want to win. I speed up some more. And they manage to catch up to me. I look to my left to see the man who's accomplished this feat, and nearly choke on my surprise. "Steve?" He looks over as well, and his eyes widen. "(Y/n)?" I laugh, keeping my pace. "I should have guessed. No normal person could run with me."
"What are you doing here?"
"Same as you. Running."
"I meant on Earth." I hide my frown and tell him, "A story for another time, my friend." Soon we're coming up on another man, who clearly hears us coming. I hear him mutter, "Don't say it! Don't you say it!" It confuses me, but Steve seems to understand. He says, "On your left!" As we pass. "Come on!" I hear the man shout. I look back to see the man speed up to try an catch us, but quickly falls behind and stops. "Do you know him? What was that about?" I ask Steve. "No, I've just passed him several times now." I laugh. "So you're secretly an ass." Steve shrugs, a small smile on his lips. We run in silence from there, keeping pace with each other. Towards the end of it, we come across the man sitting by a tree.
"Need a medic?" Steve jests. The man laughs. "I need a new set of lungs. Dude, you just ran like 13 miles in 30 minutes." I feign surprise. "I'm disappointed in you, Steve. Only 30 minutes?"
"I guess I got a late start."
"Oh, really? You should be ashamed of yourself. You should take another lap. Did you just take it? I assumed you just took it." Steve points at his shirt. "What unit you with?"
"58, Pararescue. But now I'm working down at the VA." Sam lifts hand to shake. "Sam Wilson." Steve gives Sam a hand to stand and says, "Steve Rogers."
"Yeah I kind of put that together. Must have freaked you out coming home after the whole defrosting thing." I remember Steve telling me he's not from this time. I suppose that is what Sam is referring to. "It takes some getting used to. It's good to meet you, Sam." Sam looks at me. "What about you?" He points towards the sky and circles his finger dramatically. "You're from space and all." I hold out my hand to shake his. "Asgard, yes. I've learned quite a lot about Earth, yet there's always more. I'm (Y/n)."
"I should get going." Steve announces, turning to leave. "It's your bed, right?" Sam calls to him. "What's that?"
"Your bed, it's too soft. When I was over there I'd sleep on the ground and use rock for pillows, like a caveman. Now I'm home, lying in my bed, and it's like..."
