Third Person P.O.V.

The world seemed quiet. Still. Like she had taken all the color with her.

Pale.

Soft beeping.

No life.

And then... a fluttering.

A word.

"Loki?"

He looked up from his book to see his sister awake and confused. "I'm beginning to think you're trying to take after me." He was sitting at her bedside, a book in his hand (Y/n) recognized. She and Steve had read it together. "What are you doing her-" She tried to reach her right arm towards his only to find it wasn't there. Loki pursed his lips. "Yes, that's...the healers, er, doctors, couldn't preserve it. My magic barely did enough to keep you alive, I'm sorry." (Y/n) looked down at the would be arm in grief. Still she said, "You kept me alive..."

"Was I just supposed to let you die?" He teased. She rose her other hand, conjuring a feeble bit of ice. "I don't have enough control." Loki just gently pushed her hand down. "Let's practice another time. You can get through this, (Y/n). You just need some rest."

"Where is everyone else? No offense, but I have a hard time believing they left you here alone." She said, attempting to change the subject. "Overseeing the construction of a new portal to return the stones your motley crew apparently stole."

"You say that just a little too fondly." He smiled. "Perhaps... Anyways, we aren't all allowed in here at once, so we've been rotating. Thor managed to convince them of my change, and that you would have brought me back for a reason. Based on what you told him, the captain was the first to believe." (Y/n) sighed, tired, and wanting to see her family. "Why did you bring me back?" Loki questioned. She looked up at him with a little smirk. "Because the sun had to shine on us again."

A nurse had come by a few times since (Y/n) had awoke, advising she get some rest, but she refused to, and instead waited for Steve to show up. She didn't have to wait for too long. Steve knocked in the doorway, and his face lit when he noticed (Y/n) was awake. He was immediately at her bedside, smiling. "They didn't think you were going to wake up, I'm so sorry I wasn't here when you woke up, but you know, I was checking on Butterscotch, and he misses you." He rambled, crying. (Y/n) signaled Loki to leave, and shushed him. "Steve, I was always afraid of becoming a man's mere love interest in his story. I never thought about how much it hurt having never been a lover to begin with."

Steve put a hand on her cheek which she did not resist. "Is that what you think? If anything, this is your story, I'm the love interest. (Y/n) you're so incredible, look what you've done here. I couldn't begin to imagine why you chose me. Please, I loved Peggy, but I love you. I'll never stop loving you until the day I die, that why I asked you to marry me. You are doing me the favor here." (Y/n) was crying, but smiling. "So when can we go home?"

(Y/n) P.O.V.

I was discharged not long after. Unadvised, but discharged nonetheless. Now we were all gathered at Tony's lake house for a congratulatory party of sorts. Our dog loves it outside. I had found myself overwhelmed by the grateful civilians and heroes. I met more people then I could count. It was especially great to meet Steve closest friend, Bucky.

And at the very end of it all, I'm happy. We've won. We did it and that's all that matters to me. Even if my arm....well I suppose that's a problem for another day. Steve doesn't leave my side unless absolutely necessary, reassuring me of my beauty despite the large burns on the right side of my face. I eventually get him to leave for a moment by asking him to bring me some water. Tony finds me almost immediately after.

"How are you feeling?" He asks. I shrug. "Tired, mostly. I can still feel my arm sometimes, like it's still there. It makes me sad when I remember it's not. But...you're alive. Loki's alive. Everyone's alive, happy. What more could I ask. If this is the price...then I don't regret it." He looks guilty. "Tony, don't start. The stones would have killed you instantly. You're family needs you. I don't regret the choice I made, and neither should you." He smirks now. "I guess you've got a point."

"Damn right, I do." We both laugh. "So...what happens now? True retirement?" I ask him. He looks over where Pepper holds Morgan and speaks with Peter. "I think it's about time, don't you think?" I look at the ring still on my hand. "Maybe...but I don't know. I've got thousands of years to lead. My fight could be far from over."

"Not without an arm. But you'll get one."

"Excuse me?"

"After we heard you're arm was amputated, the Wakandan scientists used technology to make you a new one. You know, like Barnes. You did kinda save the universe and all." I look at him in surprise. "Thank you, I...I suppose I should thank them. Wow..." Steve comes back now, handing the beverage to me. "Sorry it took so long. I could only find bottles." I frown minimally for a torment before deciding to smile. It's temporary I suppose. "It's not a problem, thank you, Steve." When Steve takes a seat next to me, I feel more content then I have in a long ass time. Destined for something big. I was indeed meant for something big.

"Now, remember: You have to return the stones to the exact moment you got them. Or you're gonna open up a bunch of nasty alternative realities." Bruce instructs Steve. "Don't worry, Bruce. Clip all the branches." Is his response. "You know, if you want, I can come with you." Sam suggests. "You're a good man, Sam. This one's on me, though." I look over at Bucky, who looks tense, and motion at his metal arm. "We're matching." I joke. It gets him to crack a small smile.

Steve walks over to us. "Don't do anything stupid 'till I get back." He tells Bucky. "How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you." They hug. He comes over to me, taking my flesh hand, and kissing the back of it. "Steve...I know you love me. But this is a chance for you. If you really love Peggy..." I choke up for a moment. "...then go to her. I'll be okay. I mean...you're mortal and I'm not. Maybe it wasn't meant to be." He looks saddened by my words, but also seems to ponder them. He doesn't say anything, just kisses the back of my hand again, and steps onto the platform.

"How long is this gonna take?" Sam asks. "For him? As long as he needs. For us? Five seconds." Bruce responds. Steve picks up Mjolnir. "Ready, Cap? Alright. We'll meet you back here, okay?"

"You bet."

"Three, two, one." Steve disappears, and my spirits immediately dampen. My heart plummets in my chest with loss. "And returning in, five, four, three, two, one." Steve doesn't appear on the pad, startling them all. I smile sorrowfully, a few tears falling. I start to walk away from the pad as they argue over the situation.

"Well bring him back!"
"I'm trying!"

I get a good distance away before my wrist is grabbed, and I'm spun around to find Steve. "I-What?" He smiles that gorgeous smile, something I never thought I'd have to miss so much. "She lived her life. I've got to live mine." He cups my face and pulls me in for a fiery, passionate kiss. I pull him just a little closer. I thank every forefather for allowing me to love, for bringing Steve back to me because I've never loved someone this way.
