alex looks at you in confusion. he recognizes the old nickname, and he knew only one person that called him that.

he stands up, mouth open in shock. he takes a step towards you. "sugarcube?"

his mother told you that was one of the nicknames he would call you earlier. you smile back and nod.

alex's walking turns into a run. he quickly pulls you into a hug. you hug back, and you can feel his smile against your shoulder.

"i can't believe it's really you!" he exclaims.

the man broke the hug, wiping a tear that was coming out of his eye. you both chuckle. the room looked just about the same as all the old photos his mom would show you.

"this place didn't change a bit." you say, looking around.

alex's mom chuckles. "i'll leave the three of you to catch up."

karl then walks into the room, and the door is closed behind him. alex sits back down in his chair, and he tells you two to take a seat on his bed.

you notice his blanket still has disney princesses on it, and you giggle. it was quiet, but loud enough for alex to hear.

"okay, you can shut up about my blanket now." he says, giggling after.

you notice karl behind you, looking a bit uncomfortable. hmm, maybe it would help if you introduced each other?

"alex, i forgot to tell you! this is karl, from 3rd grade." you say.

karl waves, a look of disgruntlement on his face. he tried to force a smile, but you could tell he was unhappy to be there. weird, maybe something happened between them in the past?

alex's smile turns into a similar look when he lays eyes on karl. something's definitely up.

"uhh, guys? something wrong?" you ask.

"nothing, nothing. just, can i talk to karl for a bit?" alex asked, not sounding too jazzed about it.

"sure, i guess." you answer, stepping out of the room.

alex's pov

is this some kind of joke? i finally get to see my best friend again, and out of everyone that they could've brought, they brought him. how do they still know each other? god, this is gonna be awkward.

we sit there, in silence. geez, i really want to say something to him. maybe that arguement with him 12 years ago wasn't really worth it.

"you look..different." i say, trying to spark a conversation.

"yeah, cause i grew up. i see you're still wearing that stupid beanie." karl spat.

i scoff at his comment. "yeah, cause the barber f*cked up my haircut and the kids decided to flame me for it."

i hear karl snicker. i look over, and see he's trying real hard to suppress a laugh. it doesn't work, however. karl burst out laughing.

"look who's laughing! your hair, what did you do to it?" i ask, a few chuckles escaping me.

"i dyed it!" he answers, still laughing about my beanie situation.

your pov

you're in the living room with alex's mom. she'd just explained to you what happened before you left, since majority of your memories had vanished a long time ago.
