(4) New encounters

"Dimitri? Where are you"? You kept looking for him in the small area of the woods by the stream. Wow. He wasn't lying. He is good at this game. He could see you and couldn't help but smile. You've been looking for him for about ten minutes and started to get annoyed. "Dimitri? Where are you? I give up". Little did you know that Dimitri was in the tree right above you. You kept calling out to him and he slowly slithered down to grab you. He was about to catch you but off in the distance, he heard gunfire and so did you.

You turned around and saw Dimitri but that wasn't the surprise that took you. "What's that"?

"Gunfire. It's probably hunters. Come, lets get back to the cave".

"But-"

"Child, lets go. I don't want you to get hurt". Dimitri started to slither away with you following close behind. You really wanted to keep playing but Dimitri didn't want you to be seen, let alone him. It was understandable. Dimitri could see the want in your eyes to keep playing so he figured he would make it up to you.

Don't forget, he's trying his best to provide for you.

Once you made it back to the cave, you ran off to go look at Dimitris pile of treasures. There was always something you didn't recognize at first and you loved to examine them all. Little things and other objects. Meanwhile, Dimitri was attending to some food he was cooking and was still trying to think of what he can do to make up for the lost playtime. He wasn't sure. He took a glance in your direction and saw you fiddling with the pile of treasures and knew you were ok.

You were still fiddling with the objects when you saw a rabbit at the entrance of the cave. You did like bunnies so you tried to get closer to it which meant leaving the cave. The rabbit saw you and ran off but you followed after it as fast as you could. Dimitri hadn't noticed yet and just kept attending to the food. You stopped chasing the rabbit and hunched over to catch your breath but then looked around to see that you were now lost. You tried running back but heavy footsteps were heard and you fell to the ground in shock.

Emerging from around the corner of some trees were two male hunters in camo and another man but with a camera. "Hold it, hold it" one of them said. They all stopped dead in their tracks. "Gavin, keep the camera rolling". They all came closer and you tried backing away but instead fell over. "Woah woah woah woah, easy kid. It's ok. Are you lost"?

You shook your head.

"Where are your parents"?

You didn't respond and only crawled backwards a couple feet. "Do you need us to call the police"? You shook your head and tried to get up but a wound on your leg was making it difficult. "Gavin, zoom in on her scars. How did these happen to you"?

"My mommy and daddy".

"They did this"!? You nodded. "Jesus, uhh... Alright. Here kid, we'll take you back to our cabin and call the cops for you-"

"No" you interjected.

"Who's taking care of you then"?

"Dimitri".

"Did he patch up your wounds" Gavin asked as he still filmed them.

You nodded. "Well he sucks at doing that. Whatever he did to you is starting to come undone. Look". One of the men pointed at your arm to see that your arm which originally had an opened wound was reopened and needed to be taken cared of properly as soon as possible. "Gavin, pull out the first aid kit". One of the hunters got down on his knee to take off his backpack and starting to pull some stuff. "Alex, keep filming for Gavin. What are you doing out here anyways"?

"I wanted to see the bunny".

"Ok... Uhh, where's Dimitri"?

"Home".

The three men knew they wouldn't get much of a response from a young child and all mentally agreed to get you some help. "Be it that as it may, you still need help. We'll help you and take you home and uh... get you some food too. Jesus, whens the last time you ate" asked the other man who was known as Alex.

You didn't answer. "Well, don't worry. We'll help you, come on" James said as he extended his hand to you carefully. You excepted his hand cautiously since you didn't know who he and the other two men were but their calm and seemingly caring nature made you surprised. Yes, Dimitri certainly changed your perspective on strangers but he isn't human. These three people were a nice change of pace but one thing was clear.

They can not take you back to your parents.
