Asleep in the arms of someone else was hard to imagine. It was hard to actually fall asleep since what happened still upset you. You woke up and saw that James was still asleep and you carefully slipped out of his arms. You went downstairs and saw that Gavin was still awake and on a laptop typing but then saw the basement door open to reveal Alex holding a glass jar. "Alright, here".
"Thank you" Gavin said and took the jar from Alex. Gavin opened up the jar and placed something inside it and took out a small piece of paper. "We still haven't decided who were taking this thing to" Alex said.
"I'm still in agreement to take it to my research facility" Gavin said as he started writing on the small piece of paper.
"I still say we should sell it. You know how much we would get for it"?
"Do you know how much those people will rip you off for it"?
"They won't", Alex then took a pistol off his belt, "because they'll get fucked up if they tried".
"Jesus, Alex" Gavin said. "Put that away, have you forgotten that there's a kid here now"?
"Of course not" Alex holstered his gun, "But that's the other thing. What are we gonna do with the kid"?
"I don't know" Gavin said. "I feel so bad for her. Who knows what she's been through" Gavin said sadly.
"Either way, it's a problem. I don't think either one of us is willing to play babysitter while were trying to catch a monster".
"We don't really have much of a choice now, do we" Gavin remarked. "But I'm still in shock that it spoke English! English! This is amazing"!
"How about the fact that this monster was holding this kid hostage" Alex said as he leaned up against the counter.
"I don't think so. Did you see how quick she was to defend him"?
"Don't tell me your going back on this whole thing"?
"No, I just... I think we can do this a bit differently other than hurting it. I mean, he can't be all that bad, can he"?
"Oh my god, you pussy! That monster could've killed her and you want to have a nice conversation with it? What's next? You want to have brunch with it, too"?
"No. But I want all my questions answered and you and your psychotic self want to kill it and stuff it as another trophy".
"Just forget it. I'm going to bed". You quickly rushed back upstairs and got back into James room and hearing Alex's footsteps walk by and a door open and close. You looked to see that James was still asleep and you left the room again. You got back and saw Gavin still on his laptop but he then got up and went to the bathroom. You saw that the basement door was still open and you decided it would be a good idea to investigate it. As you made your way down, you saw a lot of strange things.
Small tubes with red liquid, glass jars with certain objects in them, some of them containing dead snakes, a couple pet cages with live snakes and with warm red light above each one, another cage with live mice, another computer with three monitors and a large board with pictures and a map that had small circles on certain parts. None of it made sense to you but it was really interesting. "What're you doing"? You quickly turned around and saw Gavin standing there. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry-"
"Shh, it's ok. I'm not mad, if that's what your worried about". Gavin walked forward a bit. "I know this is all confusing, but please don't touch this stuff".
"What is it" you asked.
"Research. You see, (Y/n), we, uhh... We... *sighs*, were researching about your friend, Dimitri".
"Why"?
"I think that's pretty obvious" Gavin joked but then saw that pure innocent look on your face and had to remind himself who he was talking to. "Well, Dimitri isn't a normal human like us, you know that right"? You nodded. "He's very unique. So, we want to observe him and study him. You understand"? You nodded. "Ok. Well, I think you should-"
The sound of rapid footsteps coming down the stairs made you and Gavin look to the stairs and see a very panicked James who then looked relieved to see you both. "Oh, (y/n), you scared me. What are you doing down here"?
"She wanted to come see the lab" Gavin said and you went over to James. "Either way, back to bed. Come on". James took you up into his arms and you didn't fight it. He had this caring and nurturing vibe that you still desperately craved which then gave you the prompt to lay your head against his shoulder. James bidded another good night to Gavin, who said he would stay up tonight for a precaution, and James took you back upstairs to his room.
You were already falling asleep and James decided that sleeping in the chair was going to mess him up in the morning so he put you in the bed and made sure you had enough space between the both of you, figuring you wanted space. But that was short lived when he felt something move against him and he turned his head over to see you cuddling up on the side of him. He couldn't help but smile and brought the covers up to you and whispered, "Good night, (Y/n)".
He didn't get a response which he kind of expected and drifted off to sleep. He didn't know how the rest of their research would go now that they have you to worry about but they knew that they would figure it out.
