(9) The morning hunt

As peaceful as the sounds of the calm forest was, the tension around the four of you was unbearable. They had no choice but to take you along with them on their morning hunt, excuse me, morning search. James made sure you were beside him at all times, Alex was keeping his eyes peeled with his hunting rifle and Gavin was carrying his equipment in his large backpack and still carrying around his video camera. They explained that they were going back to the place where they found you to see if they could find Dimitri but you made them promise that they wouldn't hurt Dimitri if he was found.

"Stop"! Everyone stopped when Alex abruptly told them to and got down on his knee to examine the ground. "Here, Gavin, look at this". Gavin came forward with his camera and zoomed in to what was found. Wide snack trials. "They're fresh. He could be close by" Alex concluded.

"Let's not forget that he might also be above us" James said worriedly and tightened his grip on your small hand. You all continued on and you eventually saw the stream where Dimitri took you to play. It meant that the cave was close by. "See anything" you asked.

"No, not yet" Alex said. "You recognize anything yet"?

"Yes".

"What is it"?

You pointed over to the stream and they went towards it. "We played hide-and-seek here". Gavin was filming the area and took something out of his backpack. "Perhaps this is where he gets his water supply from. I want to trace this area" Gavin said.

"Alright, you do that. I'm gonna go take a leak". Alex walked off and the other two just rolled their eyes. You didn't know what that meant but you didn't think much of it. James still hadn't released your hand and you finally told him he was hurting your hand which made him release you before he replied "Sorry". Gavin was burying a tracer in the ground and James took a second to rest his legs. You walked over to the stream and picked up a stick, pretending it was a sword. James was watching and couldn't help but smile and Gavin wasn't paying attention as he continued on with his buisness. You took another stick and rushed over to James, handing him the stick.

James just smiled yet again and stood up, stick in hand, and acted like the stick was a sword too. You both were "battling" each other until James faked an injury and pretended to fall to the ground in pain. "Oh no, I've been defeated" he lied.

"Ha ha, I win"!

"Oh, please, spare me, great knight" James said smiling. You pretended to ponder on his request which meant putting your finger to your chin and looking up. But while looking up, you saw the familiar scaled body of Dimitri. You then see him looking at you and putting a finger on his mouth, signaling you to be quiet. "Will you spare me"? You looked back down to James and he was still waiting for an answer from you and was now starting to think you were getting bored of this game. "Yeah. Your spared"!

"Oh, thank goodness" he said and stood up. "Thank you".

"Alright, I'm back" Alex said as he approached you all. "You done yet"?

"Yeah, I just finished" Gavin said as he packed up his stuff. The area was now being monitored. "Alright, let's keep going" James said. They were about to head out and when you looked up, you saw that Dimitri wasn't in the tree anymore. "Come on, (y/n)". You looked at James and he was waiting for you patiently. You took his hand and they continued onwards but you wanted to see Dimitri again but you also remembered that Dimitri asked you to be quiet. "Woah woah woah, check this out" Alex announced. You all went towards him and you had discovered Dimitri's cave.

"Don't go in there" James said. "It might be a bear cave".

"Have you forgotten that I'm one of the best hunters in the state"?

"Have you forgotten that we have a kid with us" James said.

"Don't worry, watch this". Alex took something out of his pocket and also lit a match. "No, Alex, don't-"!

Alex put the match up to the object and threw it into the cave which then made a series of loud explosions. James quickly picked you up and rushed away from the cave with Gavin behind some trees. Alex just stood at the mouth of the cave, looking proud of himself. "Are you insane" Gavin asked angrily as he came out from behind the tree and after the explosions stopped.

"That was done to see if anything was in there". James came out from behind the tree and realized that it was safe to put you down. "Alex" James said, "Don't ever do that again".

"Alright alright alright. Come on". You all entered the cave and all the torches that were in the cave were put out. The three men then took out their phones and turned on their flashlights. "Someone was definitely here. Look" Gavin said as he filmed a pile of burned logs and ash. "These are fresh".

"Possibly another hunter" James asked.

"Maybe".

You stayed quiet and didn't want to say that this is where Dimitri lived so you just stayed close to James. "Look, over there" Alex alerted. You all looked over and saw the other part of the cave that had Dimitri's collection of odd things. You all went over and Gavin was still filming it all. "What the hell is all this stuff" Alex asked. You got closer and saw the doll that Dimitri had given to you but when you went to grab it, James snatched it. "Ah-ah-ah, no. It could have germs or something on it. Don't touch anything, ok"?

You didn't respond and just looked down. James then tossed the doll back into the pile but you then looked up and saw Dimitri above you all. The three men weren't paying attention and you raised your arms up to him. You needed him. Dimitri then lowered himself and quickly snatched you up and slithered to another part of the cave. "Ok. I want to trace this area as well, just in case. James, can you get-"

Gavin stopped talking immediately and looked around frantically. "Where's (Y/n)"!? James and Alex then looked around too and started to panic.

"(Y/N)"!!!!!!
