After the rave Scott and I were at the railway depot Derek was living in. They were arguing while I was in the middle, not sure who's side I was on. All I know is I'm here to hold them back if they start a fight.
Derek was leading. "I'm saying we need a new plan, because next time, one of us is going to be too hurt to heal."
Scott sighed. "Ugh, I get it- we can't save Jackson."
Derek sat down and stared at a wall. "We can't seem to kill him, either. I've seen a lot of things, Scott. I've never seen anything like this," he said grimly. "Every new moon's just gonna make him stronger."
"But how do we stop him?" Scott asked him.
"I don't know. I don't even know if we can," the alpha said shrugging.
Scott looked at me. "Maybe we should just let the Argents handle it."
Derek looked down. "I'm the one who turned him. It's my fault."
Scott stood up straighter. "Yeah, but you didn't turn him into this! I mean, this happened because of something in his past, right?"
Derek scoffed. "That's a legend in a book. It's not that simple."
Scott continued to question. "What do you mean? What aren't you telling us?"
I lean forward to show Derek I was wondering too. He's always keeping something from us. Like we're not allowed to know or we can't handle it. Yet somehow we always trust him.
Derek seemed frustrated. "Why do you think I'm always keeping something from you? What about her?" He pointed at me. "You just met her and you trust her more than me."
Well maybe it's because I've been telling the truth since I met them. I'm standing now. Anger fills my head.
Scott flailed his arms. "Because you're always keeping something from us! And Stiles did his research on Phoebe. She's lived her since she was young, I'm also sure if we needed any information she'd give it us."
Research?
I looked back and forth between the two, backing away slowly. I eventually leaned against a pole mimicking Scott.
"Well, maybe I do it to protect you."
"Doesn't being part of your pack mean no more secrets?" Scott questioned furring his eyebrows.
Derek sighed. "Go home. Sleep. Heal. Make sure your friends are safe. 'Cause the full moon's coming, and with the way things are going, I've got a feeling it's gonna be a rough one."
Scott left shortly after their conversation. I waited a bit to ask Derek something.
"So Derek." He arched his eyebrows at me. "I was wondering if I can stay for the full moon tomorrow."
"Why?"
"You see, I still don't have complete control over my shifting when it comes to the full moon."
"How is that possible?"
"Well maybe because I didn't have a pack to teach me or parents who cared. You reminded me of that a couple nights ago, remember? When you attacked us."
"What about your siblings," he asks, ignoring my anger.
"Maya has been like a rabid raccoon on crack. She still hasn't controlled turning, so she stays in the cement basement. Logan will watch her."
He walked away. "Fine."
"Thank you!" I yelled as he walked away.
The next day, after school, Derek's place was empty but I let myself in. I was wearing dark blue jeans with a bit of a flare at the end and a black t-shirt. Maya wanted to pick out my outfit and it's not too bad.
