Chapter 13

Goldheart's POV

I manage to get inside the very heart of the Dark Forest with Bronzetail. I look around. There is darkness everywhere. Not a star in the sky.

"Bronzetail! Where is Frostshine?" I ask him

"Goldheart wait-"

"Answer the question Bronzetail! If you really are my brother, you'll help me. Frostshine is my best friend. I can't lose her too"

I already am forbidden to see Silverstone. I don't just care about her, I love her. But now I won't see her again.. Ever

"Now, Bronzetail, take me to her" I mew.

"She is past the pine tree, and over that ridge. But wait before you go-"

"No time! Come on!" I yell and I run until I'm over the ridge.

"Bronzetail I don't see-" I begin

"Good job, Bronzetail. You brought him to me." Says a cold, dark voice.

A voice that I thought I'll never hear again.

My mother.

"Hello Goldheart" says Duskflower, my mother.

"What do you want? What have you done with Frostshine! I hiss

"Frostshine? Oh she's fine. Perfect in fact. But there is one thing you haven't done for me, Goldheart. Remember what I told you?"

****Flashback*****

"Hey Frostshine! Let's go hunting!" I say full of joy.

"Wait! You're 12 moons old! You're old enough to become a warrior now. Even if you aren't in a clan, you can still earn your warrior name from me. First, go take your warrior assessment! I'll be watching.." Says Frostshine

"Okay! I'll get the juiciest vole ever! I say

I pad into the forest of starclan. I died when I was a kit, but starclan has given me a chance to grow up into a warrior! Frostshine and I have our very own piece of territory!

Suddenly I hear a rustle among the trees.

I sniff the air. Not prey.. But.. Cat..?

"Who's there?!" I hiss, my fur bristling.

"Hello son" hisses a voice

"Son? I don't have a mother!"

"It's me, Duskflower" says the voice

"Duskflower! You! How dare you enter starclan!" I hiss, getting ready to fight

"Relax! I have something you must do for me. If you do this, then I'll forgive you, and we can be happy together again!" She says

"You abandoned me!" I cry

"Yes, I know! Just listen up will you! You know that cat, Jaywing?"

"I've seen him in Lightningclan, yes." I say

"Well, my friend, Darkheart, has kept him hostage in the Dark Forest. He's an evil cat! That's why you must kill him" she says

"Kill him? But why? Why can't you do it?"

"Because! This is a test for you. Don't you want me to love you again?"

I would do anything for my mother to love me!

"Yes! I'll do it.

I'll kill him"

I head back carrying 3 voles and 2 mice.

Frostshine smiles with pride.

"Good job, Goldheart. How do you like your warrior name?"

"I love it! But I must go, Frostshine. I'll be back."

I have a cat to kill.

"You made me kill him!" I yell at Duskflower.

"He died, but that no good Flamestar gave him her last life! He's alive, Goldheart. Not dead." she yells back.

"I need him dead. He's a threat to everyone in the Dark Forest. You must kill him, Goldheart. Or else."

"Or else what?" I shoot back.

"Or else you'll be trapped here. Because Bronzetail brought you here."

"Bronzetail? He told me Frostshine was here! " I yell

"I'm right here. I'm not stuck here. I live here." Says Frostshine.

She sits next to me and her belly is round with kits.

"W-what do you mean? You live in Starclan! With me!" I say

"No, I don't. This was all a plan. Don't you see? Goldheart, you're trapped here. No way out. I'm also expecting kits!!"

"Frostshine ! Y-you betrayed me! I thought we were friends!"

"Well you thought wrong! Thanks to Bronzetail, you will be stuck in the Dark Forest forever"

"Bronzetail! You traitor!" I hiss at him

"Goldheart! I was trying to warn you! I-I'm sorry.." He tells me

"This is all your fault!" I cry

Duskflower says,"Listen closely, Goldheart. You will travel into Jaywing's dreams. And you will kill him.
