Chapter 17

Silverstone's POV

It's been a quarter moon since I've been mates with Oakleaf.

"And I've still haven't heard or seen Goldheart" I mutter to myself.

"Silverstone? I thought you said that you never wanted to see Goldheart again. Why are you still mentioning him? Do you still love him? Do you?" Oakleaf asks, fur bristling.

And Oakleaf has changed ever since I agreed to be with his mate.

"Nevermind, Oakleaf. Let's go get something to eat"

He narrows his eyes then stalks over to the fresh kill pile.

What's wrong with him? It's like he is jealous or something.

Wait... Could he be jealous of Goldheart? He isn't.. Is he??

Goldheart's POV

I have to find a way to save Silverstone, and her father. But I still don't understand why Duskflower hates him so much..

I have Bronzetail on my side. But Duskflower has Frostshine, and her mate, Stormleaf.

I still can't believe Frostshine became mates with a living cat.

She's dead. He's alive. How could one fall in love-

Oh wait. I fell in love with a living cat.

I understand how Frostshine feels, but she didn't have to betray me!

I hiss at the thought. "Bronzetail, we need to get Silverstone to help us, and maybe her mate, Oakleaf"

The way I said mate wanted me to claw my own pelt off.

"Isn't Silverstone mad at you?" Bronzetail replies.

"Yes, and she won't listen to me. That's why you have to go and talk to her."

"Me?"

"Yes, you. She already threatened me, even if she didn't mean it. I don't want to upset her again. Because Bronzetail, I love her."

"I know you do. Very well, I'll do it."

Suddenly I hear pawsteps followed my tiny mewling.

That could only mean one thing.

"Frostshine? You had your kits?" I ask

"Bronzetail, go!" I whisper in his ear

"But she might attack you, and her mate might be close by!" he hisses back

"I can take care of myself. Now go! Quickly!"

Bronzetail's POV

I head over to Silverstone's clan, hoping that she'll understand me when I try to talk to her.

I sneak past the Warriors keeping guard, and I catch sight of Silverstone sharing a vole with Oakleaf.

I force my pelt to become flat.

I try to get closer, and hoping that she'll hear me, I say:

"Silverstone!"

"Silverstone, over here!"

"Are you Goldheart's brother?" Asks an unfamiliar voice.

"Where are you? Show yourself!" I hiss

The voice reveals to be Oakleaf.

"Oakleaf? You saw me?"

"How could I not? Now answer my question. Are you Goldheart's brother?"

"Half-brother, actually."

"Oh. Well, why is it you came? Silverstone doesn't want to speak with you or your brother right now." he tells me.

"Could you at least come with me? Goldheart is alone with Frostshine and I'm afraid she might hurt him!" I meow desperately.

Oakleaf stares at me for a couple of heartbeats, then stalks away.

But that look in his eyes seemed to say

'Let him suffer'
