CHAPTER 38

CRYSTAL'S POV
"All done" Zayn said as he securely tied the rope around the wooden logs. This completed our fourth and final boat. A huge grin grazed my face as I saw my friends do their happy dance. We'll finally get out of this abandoned island for good. Tyler came upto me and sat beside me. "How are you feeling?" he asked looking at me, his eyes filled with concern. "much better than yesterday" I replied as I placed my head on his shoulder. It was true. When I woke up yesterday, I couldn't feel my back at all. Even the slightest of movements caused immense pain. But, ever since Jacob found those herbs in the forest and prepared a medicine for me, my injury has been much better, both in regards to pain and appearance. "Jacob's medicine worked wonders huh" Tyler said in a relieved voice. I nodded. "I'm so happy were finally getting out of this mess" I mumbled. "Getting out for good" Tyler replied as he kissed the top of my head. I sighed in relief and closed my eyes. It's been a while since I felt so peaceful. I heard the sound of footsteps coming towards us. The person stopped right in front of us. "We're ready" I heard Scott say. I opened my eyes. "Thank goodness" Tyler sighed. "Cmon love let's go" Tyler said as he helped me get off the ground. I hissed in pain as I slowly got up. This is gonna trouble me for weeks. Tyler growled as he saw me struggling. I turned to look at him and gave him a reassuring smile. "Don't worry babe it'll heal soon. I'm just glad that things didn't get any worse. All of us made it out alive from that nightmare is all that matters" I said. He smiled and nodded. I placed my arm across his shoulder and he placed his arm across my hips, lending me support so that I could walk with them to the boats. There were 4 oars for each of the boat except for the last one which had 3. Tyler helped me sit down as Zoey sat down beside me. I saw Rose and Ashley sitting on the second boat. Sarah and Mason sat down on the third boat. "Let's do this" Tyler said looking at Zayn. Zayn nodded giving him a small smile. With that Zayn and Tyler pushed the boat in the water. I shuddered a bit as the boat landed in the water. "Don't worry Crystal. The boats are strong enough to carry our weight" Zayn said reassuring me. I nodded. Zayn and Tyler hopped on the boat with me and Zoey. I saw Scott and Noah pushing their boat into the water. Rose and Ashley had a look of excitement on their faces. They looked like little kids on a water slide. I chuckled. Scott and Noah joined them on the boat, laughing at their expressions. It had been a while since we all truly laughed. I saw Zayn, Zoey and Tyler grabbing the oars. I reached out for the final oar but Zoey slapped my arm away. "Hey what was that for" I shouted a bit surprised. "You're not doing anything except for sitting here" She said. "Oh cmon this is ridiculous. I can't sit here idle while you guys do all the work" I argued. "Crys she's right. You need rest. Don't worry we'll handle it" Tyler said looking at me. "But-" I said but before I could finish my sentence James shouted to us. "Guys we're ready let's go!" He shouted. Our attention turned towards him. I saw that all of them had boarded their boats. Mason, Sarah, James and Jacob were on the third boat and Alex, Daniel and Lucas were on the fourth and the final boat. With that Zoey, Zayn and Tyler started moving their oars and our journey began. The weather was thankfully clear and the waters were calm as well. "hey T there was a change of plans" Zayn said breaking the silence. All of us looked at him. "Instead of crossing the castle and travelling through the waters, we'll stop at the castle and travel through the forest instead" He said. "why the sudden change in plan" Zoey asked. "James suggested this plan. Now that the Lycans are gone we can stop at the castle without any fear. Moreover, the guards who were assigned for your security along with Jacob and his friends are the members of Jacob and his friends' pack. He wants to recollect them and go back to their territory. They are the only members left of their pack and they want to stick together" Zayn said and I nodded. I turned my head to look at others to see that Jacob was already looking into my direction. I gave him a small smile and he gave me a smile back. "It would take us about half a day to reach the castle right?" I asked Tyler and he nodded. I turned my head backwards to give the island a last glance. It was becoming smaller and smaller as we strayed further away from it. I breathed in a sigh of relief and turned my head back ahead. After this, none of us will have to look back. Ever again.

Tyler held out his hand for me to take as I boarded off the boat. The feeling of having land beneath your feet has never felt any better. The boys were dragging the boats on the land as the sun slowly settled behind us. It had taken us longer than what we had anticipated but just the fact that we reached here safely and alive is what matters the most. I turned my head to look up at the castle. No wonder it was the top of the mountain. "we have some climbing to do" Sarah said ad she walked up to me and stood beside me. "I'm guessing you girls have never seen this way to the castle" Alex said from behind us. I chuckled a bit. "No we haven't. This is the first time that we're seeing this from the outside. We were unconscious when we were brought here and once we were here we were not allowed to go past the gardens. That is until, you guys helped us escape" I said. He nodded. "Jacob are your pack members aware of our arrival?" Mason asked as all of us started the climb. "Yeah I mind linked them yesterday itself and plus I doubt that any living creature in our vicinity would have missed the screams of the Lycans" Jacob said. Less than halfway up the mountain and my back starts to hurt. I stop to take a breather and Tyler immediately rushes to me. "Love are you ok?" He asked with a concerned look on his face. "My back has started to hurt again. I think " I said sitting down on a rock. My back felt like it weighed a ton. "I'll carry you on my back for the rest of the journey"  He said as he turned his back towards me, motioning me to climb on his back. "Babe you sure about this?" I asked him as I inspected the distance. We still had a long way to go. Tyler chuckled. "Babe I'm a werewolf did you forget" He said smirking. I shook my head and slowly stood up on the rock. I placed my arms around his neck as his arms lifted me up. In a mere second, I was on his back, without feeling any pain. My back already felt so much better. "Alright let's go" Tyler said as all of us started walking again. Well, all of them started walking again. I closed my eyes and rested my head on his shoulder. I don't know what I would've done without him. I turned my head to the side and I couldn't help but notice how deep the ditch was. I closed my eyes again as my acrophobia started to kick in. My heart rate started to increase as I subconsciously tightened my arms around Tyler. He turned his head to look at me. "Don't worry I'm here. I won't let anything happen to you" He whispered to me. My body melted at his words and my fear started to subside. It's crazy the effect that soulmates have on each other. My eyes felt heavy. It was probably due to the medicine that Jacob gave me. As I slowly closed my eyes, the last image that I saw was the sun slowly settling behind the horizon. The skies were covered with warmth...

Just as warm as my Tyler.
