Valisblot, or as it is now known, Valentine's day hasn't always been a celebration of love, for the patron Goddess of love was also the patron Goddess of war. So, take that with a pinch of salt and do with that information what you will.
On Berk, they decided that celebrating the ones they love on Valisblot, was a much better tradition than the original. So, every year, couples would exchange gifts to express their love for one another. While Vikings weren't really the sappy romantic kind, it was the thought that mattered most.

Now, there was one Viking who could be as romantic as they come. You guessed it. His name was Hiccup. But there was one small problem. He had spent all week working on the perfect gift for Astrid, but no matter what, it didn't seem to be enough for him. It was his first valentine's day, with Astrid, and it had to be perfect.
***
Hiccup had given the riders the day off. Normally he would leave Fishlegs in charge, but he assumed that Fishlegs would be busy with Heather. After all, it was their first valentine's day together too.

"Morning, Milady." Hiccup whispered as he noticed Astrid beginning to stir.
"Why are you not in bed?" Astrid groaned, reaching out her arms, inviting him to rejoin her. Hiccup chuckled.
"Because I was making breakfast." He explained. "But if you don't want it..." He turned away, carrying the tray full of food with him.
"Don't you dare!" Astrid gasped. Hiccup joined Astrid, handing her the tray full of her favorite breakfast. Bacon and eggs on toast, with a glass of milk.
When she sat up to eat, she noticed a dozen red roses on her nightstand. Well, Hiccup's nightstand. She soon noticed that one of them was made from paper.
"Thanks for the roses." She smiled gratefully. "But, why a fake flower?"
"Because I will love you until the very last flower withers and dies." He explained before planting a kiss on Astrid's forehead. She turned away to hide her blushing face.
After breakfast, Hiccup walked Astrid over to her hut. She gasped when she noticed that Hiccup had gotten her a new bow and arrow set. While Astrid definitely preferred an axe, she was a strangely talented archer and had snapped her bow in half just a week before. She squealed with excitement before jumping into Hiccup's arms.
"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."

The young couple spent most of the day walking along the beach, enjoying each other's company and a surprise picnic that Hiccup had arranged. They had a few sparring sessions. Astrid won all of them.
Astrid hopped on Stormfly.
"Catch us if you can!" She called, smirking at Hiccup. He smirked back before racing to Toothless. They raced and raced until they found themselves back at Berk. Just as Astrid planned.
They landed on a nearby sea stack to watch the sunset.
"Hiccup..." Astrid sighed happily as she leaned back against his chest. His arms snaked around her as he planted a gentle kiss on her shoulder. "Thank you."
