Even when you're the star kicker of the football team, high school freaking sucks. especially when your one of the only two openly gay kids in school.

It just didn't make sense to Kurt. Why is it that he is constantly ridiculed and bullied, while Blaine anderson, the receiver on the football team, is praised and cheered for at every single game? Probably because he wins the game and then shows up at the after party with a different guy on his arm every weekend. Kurt thought bitterly.

It wasn't that Kurt didn't like being on the football team, In reality he loved kicking the ball across the field in souring between the goal posts and he loved that he and his dad had something that they could both relate too. He was just sure as hell that his role as the Kicker is where he wants to stay.

At the end of the day, he left math class and headed to the locker rooms. Kurt walked out onto the practice field and began warming up near Blaine and his group of friends; When Blaine noticed this however, he quickly steered his friends to the other end of the field.

Yeah. the boys weren't exactly best of friends.

The team were getting ready for the semi-final game (with Kurt pointedly facing the wall as he changed to not cause any of the guys to make comments.) when Mike Chang, who played right guard, walked into the changing room clutching his shoulder with a grimace on his face and Artie wheeling next to him, looking apologetic.

"coach?" Mike called out nervously. when Coach Beiste was stood in front of him, he continued. most of the team had turned to look at them by this point.

"I just dislocated my shoulder and I don't think I can play. I'm really sorry coach."

"Just now?" Coach Beiste asked in response. "How?"

this was when Artie spoke up, sounding sheepish. "That one's on me coach. we were on our way here and we got to a ramp and uh....I suggested that Mike stood on the back of my chair to go down the ramp. We thought it would be fun, but safe to say that Mike didn't exactly enjoy falling off and landing on his shoulder."

Kurt heard Blaine suppressing a laugh. He thought it was Blaine. it was normal to recognize people's laughs right?

Coach Beiste snapped her head in Kurt's direction. "you, Hummel." She said. Kurt gulped in anticipation. "All of our subs are injured. your on as right guard as well as kicker tonight son."

Kurt just blinked at her in shock. He couldn't play in a defence position! He was a kicker, the whole point of his role was to stay away from the danger, that's why he had chosen it!

the rest of the preparation for the game went by in a blur, because the next thing he knew Blaine was clapping him on the shoulder and wishing him luck. "You know, because it's your first time playing defence." he said quickly, a blush creeping up his cheeks. Kurt frowned slightly in confusion.

Being out on the field at the same time as everyone else was terrifying. there were all these huge guys, and they just ran at you with no fear whatsoever? Kurt had already been knocked to the ground a few times, and had the bruises to prove it. Blaine however, was on cloud nine as he made yet another successful pass that ultimately led to a touchdown.
