***1 week later***

P.o.v Patrick

"So how are you feeling, Patrick?" The doctor asks me, leaning back in his chair beside my bed.

I came in yesterday to have the central line put in, and I stayed over night so the doctor could make sure there were no complications- and fortunately there were none.

"I'm feeling as good as I can with a tube hanging out of my chest." I say. "No pain, correct?" He asks, writing down several notes on his clipboard. "Nope," I reply, running my hand over my head, forgetting that there is basically no hair there now (though it grew back just a bit to be a little prickly, but I know even that will be gone soon).

"Ok, schedule an appointment to come in next week for the first round of chemo. Give yourself some time to adjust to this. Have a good day I'll see you soon." The doctor says, giving me a smile before heading out of the room.

The guys are in the hall waiting for me to come out, so I change quickly and throw on the loose T-shirt I purposely bought in fear of pulling the tube out (which I learned can't happen by accident unless I really tried to remove it with a lot of effort). Lastly, I pull on a black zipper-up sweatshirt and move to the door.

"Hey man how you feeling?" Pete asks, throwing a cautious arm over my shoulders. The familiar gesture brings a smile to my face, "Good, I was nervous but it doesn't feel as weird as I thought it would. I'll show you when we get back to the bus it looks kinda cool and-" "Excuse me!" A weak voice calls out from behind us.

We spin around to see a teenage girl sitting in a wheelchair, an oxygen tank supplying air through a tube under her nose, her head completely free of any hair, "Fall out boy?!" A wide smile makes her eyes scrunch up with happiness. I look to the guys and then back at her, nodding, "Yep, that's us!"

We walk to her and her mom (who is pushing her along), and she introduces herself, "Laura, and this is my daughter, Erin." She shakes each of our hands and then I move to face Erin, who I now notice is wearing one of our shirts.

"What are you doing in here? Visiting someone?" She asks, her eyes so bright compared to this dull hospital- she doesn't belong in here...

I clear my throat, "Long story that you have to keep a secret for now. Want to take a walk?" I ask, and she nods enthusiastically.

Her mom pushes her wheelchair as we slowly walk around the halls, and I tell my story- all the way from first noticing the symptoms up until today. She has tears in her eyes when I finish, and it touches me to see her truly care so deeply.

When we come to a stop in the hallway, Pete squats down to be face to face with her, "What's such a beautiful girl like you in here for?" She shrugs casually, "Lung cancer, I'm on a list for a transplant but I've been waiting for months and still nothing..." Erin says sadly, "Your music is what keeps me going." She's staring into her lap as she says the last part, and I can't help but pull her into a hug, "Don't you ever give up, ok? Keep fighting. For me. For us. And most importantly, for yourself." I whisper, and Pete stands up.

"Keep fighting." Andy says, and then she asks us for a picture- which we happily oblige to.

She grabs my hand with her frail one as we say goodbye, staring up into my eyes, "Thank you, Patrick."

"I'll see you around, Erin."
