Vartika's POV:
The song 2002 by Anne Marie played on my speaker as I got ready for college. I decided to cross check that I had packed everything I needed, in my side bag while lip syncing to the lyrics.
I picked my side bag up from the bed and headed downstairs after having a one last look at myself in the mirror.
Feeling thirsty, I walked inside the kitchen. As I drank water from the glass, I remembered about the coconut cookies I made last night.
'I should take some for him,' I thought.
I took a paper pouch and started transferring some cookies from the box to it.
"Is it for Shiv?" My mom said from behind the kitchen counter making me squawk in surprise.
"Mom, you startled me!... And yes, it is for Shiv." I went back to doing what I was doing while my mom walked towards the gas stove.
"What are your thoughts on the name, Dhvani?" She asked as she ignited the gas stove. I guess that she was making tea.
"It's nice." I said while keeping the box of cookies back on the kitchen cabinet.
"Or Saanjh?" She asked again.
"Yeah, it's nice too."
"Or Myra?" She asked again.
"Yeah but, why are you asking me that?"
"Of course, why wouldn't I?... After all, mother's consent is required too!" She said in a way as if stating a fact.
"Consent? Mother?... What are you talking about?" I was perplexed.
"You!" She said with her hand pointing at me, as if it was obvious.
My eyes went wide in embarrassment as I finally understood the meaning behind her words. "Mom!!... Eww, stop talking about us like that!.. We are just friends!"
My mom raised her eyebrows while giving me the look that meant oh really. There was no point in lying to mom. She's my best friend before being my mom.
"Fine, maybe I like him but... I am not even sure if he really likes me... or am I just one of his other crushses he keeps talking to me about,"
"Then, find out!... I am dying to see the faces of my grandchildren!" She said while pouring the tea in a cup.
"MOM!!" I yelled. She gave me a lop sided grin before walking out of the kitchen leaving me flustered.
