The air was fresh with scent of mead and meat burning on the open fire pit, the smell of smoke and coal were also filling the air as the sounds of people laughing with joy and chatting the night away filled the room; I could remember everything from this night. Seeing the people's smiles that were bright with joy, seeing the fire flickering in the fire pit in the middle of the room was bright and warm with a hint of a small nip of the coldness from outside. This was a night of celebration for two clans to join together in peace and friendship; within these halls was safety and warmth.
"Did you find it?" I asked with excitement within my voice.
"Right here" my older brother of two minutes replied to me holding up a golden ring belonging to our grandfather.
I smiled and jumped in excitement when we both headed out of our bedroom, opening the two big doors that brought us out to the celebration, seeing everyone in good spirits always put me in a great mood. Hearing them sing songs, watching them dance always made my heart fill with joy; I followed Eivor through the crowd of our clan to find our father who was speaking to others.
"Ah, there you two are my little drengr's; do you have it?" our father spoke to us once he saw us coming up behind him.
Eivor held up the ring in his hands to show him that we found it for our king to have as a gift from this night.
"Good, now for our plan; be quiet as a wood mouse and surprise him with our gift. When you reach him you hold it out like this and you say, Styrbjorn king may our clans be forever bounded in friendship and love" our father spoke to us both as we listened to him.
Doing this job was exciting to do and my father could see it in my eyes when he explained on what to do once we reached the king.
"Tonight, you both will be the court to bring us together I'm so proud of you both" our father said once more as he gave us both a kiss on the forehead.
Our father smiled at us both before vanishing into the crowd of people, I smiled and tugged my brother's sleeve which made us both laugh as we walked through the crowd to reach our king who sat on the throne. As we walked by people out of nowhere came Sigurd from the crowd making me jump a little by surprise.
"I see you're still jumpy as ever Arnora" Sigurd chuckled when he noticed my little jump from his appearance.
"You came out of nowhere how else was I supposed to react?" I asked with a smile that I covered with my hands also hiding the small blush that came to my cheeks.
"You two also have no drinks in your fists, come I'll find you some" he spoke again with a smile that made my heart skip a beat.
"We can't we have a gift to deliver to your father" Eivor spoke out before Sigurd passed us to find drinks, holding up the ring in his hands for him to see it.
"Oh, what a piece that looks like its worth two sturdy long ships, give it here I'll pass it on" Sigurd spoke when he laid eyes on the ring wanting to reach out to it but Eivor held it back from his reach.
"Our father asked us Sigurd" Eivor spoke to him once he held the ring away from his reached out hand.
"Suit yourselves but you're not getting any mead" Sigurd told us before he walked by ruffling my hair when he passed me.
I blushed again as I looked back at Sigurd who got another mead to drink down, a small smile came to my face as my heart was jumping up and down; I might have been young but I couldn't help but have a secret crush on the young prince. Eivor nudged me to bring me back to reality he only smiled and laughed at my red face.
I followed behind him again until I saw our mother cleaning one of the tables, I smiled and rushed ahead to give her a hug from behind which she chuckled as she patted my head when I hugged her.
