Kyra's POVJayden and I sat opposite Kylie and Kevin in a beautifully decorated garden on Kevin's mansion. The beautiful lighting in the garden just added to the beauty and magic of the night. It had stopped drizzling early in the day and had become sunny in the afternoon. Now around nine, it was warm and the sky was clear of clouds with stars in the sky.
This was like a double date, but I wanted to think of it as more of an opportunity for Kylie and I to patch up our relationship and live together in peace like we used to back in the days when we were teenagers and in good books.
We had been sitting there for about half an hour, talking casually over glasses of champagne and red wine. I didn't engage much in the conversation, but I pitched in whenever it was necessary.
Kevin contributed to my silence. I didn't expect him to be Kylie's Kevin. I thought I'd never see him again from that time we met in Brazil. At first I hadn't recognised him since in Brazil I hadn't clearly seen him face, but I had a strong gut feeling that I knew him.
When he spoke, his accent gave him away. It was definitely him. I didn't know if it was a bad or a good thing that we had met again. The way he stole glances at me and made uncomfortable eye contact whenever our eyes met made me feel insecure. I didn't want such tension between us.
Jayden was right next to me, his hand on top of mine. It had been just three days since he confessed his love for me, but it felt like we had been intimately connected for a long time. I loved the feeling and I loved being in love with him. Everything had just started getting better for the two of us. I didn't want any distractions or cause of problems.
Kylie on the other hand was cooler with me than I expected. She was actually nice and she looked happy. She talked normally and got all lovey dovey with Kevin every now and then.
It was a fact that despite their break up, Jayden and Kylie were still friends. I didn't have a problem with that as long as she stayed within her limits. I trusted Jayden with my life, but I didn't trust Kylie, so I had to be alert. My marriage was sacred to me. I didn't want it to end because of someone who had been cleared from the picture already.
Kylie excused herself to go and check if the food was ready yet. She never really cooked, but she said she had grilled the chicken all by herself. I waited patiently to taste her chicken. There was a chef handling all the other dishes.
I was left with Jayden and Kevin on the table. Kevin and Jayden continued talking mostly about business. Jayden was really good with people. He could easily socialise and engage in a conversation. I was working on that.
Jayden's cellphone rang a few minutes after Kylie left. He had been expecting an important business call since late in the afternoon and it had kept him worried. I was glad he could finally talk to whoever would solve the problem he had and he'd be at peace.
Jayden excused himself to take the call. I gave him a small smile and assured him I'd be fine. Our entire day together had been fun. I loved him more than I could ever imagine and I felt his love for me.
"What did he do to you for you to love him this much? Really, I'm curious. Despite everything he's done to you, you love him deeply," Kevin broke me out of my thoughts.
"Kevin, Jayden is my husband and I love him. Maybe if you were married you'd understand. Never mind that, you're the Kevin I met in Brazil, right?"
"One and only one. We meet again, London. This could be the happiest day of my life," he replied, pouring himself a glass of champagne.
"I'm starting to think that you had that night planned out. Did you plan everything, Kevin?" I asked him.
"Yes. I'm sorry, but I couldn't help it. I wanted to meet you. I had to pay a lot of money for that night. It was worth it."
