Chapter X: A Scene That Should Exist

Chapter X

Moments after the doctors took David away.

Agu watched Efe sleep on the hospital bed, she didn't think the restraints on her were tight enough. Hate towards the girl engulfed her, she wanted to kill her right there and then, but she thought about what the future could hold if she managed to tame Efe. Efe would do her biding just like it was in the beginning, as it should be. 

Her son would have been 29 in the months to come, she thought back at the day he died. How uselessly it happened. 'Why did he always have to prove something?'

Efe woke from her blank dreams, feeling the heavy gaze of someone on her. 

"Mother.." This was the first time she was seeing Agu in a long time. She did visit Efe in the hospital every two weeks, sometimes (rarely) with David and their relationship wasn't bad at all. Efe thought, 'What went through Agu's mind all those years? What did she want to happen? Did she enjoy seeing me in that state?' She thought of possible answers but none of them could compare to what the truth would sound like.

"Efe" Agu acknowledged her. 

"I want answers."

"You have your memories back. What else could you possibly want to ask me?" Agu's jaw tightened.

"Why did you do it?" Efe studied Agu. Maybe she could finally get answers. "You could have easily just left me in the hospital. Why did you create the illusion that you were my mother and come to visit me? Why were you nice to me?" Efe's heart broke.

"If you are looking for a specific answer. I have none to give you." She watched Efe with hatred in her heart. "Why did you have to kill him! Why did you kill my son?!!" Agu yelled.

"I did not want to kill him. It wasn't intentional" Efe told her.

"You lie." Agu slapped her across the face, the ring she wore cut her cheek, It stung. Rage was still under so, no rapid healing took place.

"I'm not lying! He jumped in front of the axe meant for Mr Israel." The name of her former trainer found its way to her lips. "I did not want to kill anyone that day but they started attacking, they hurt david. They were planning to take him away from me. You wanted to take him away!!"

"I bought you so I own you. I had every right to take David"

"Listen to yourself, we are people not property."

"What is the difference?" Agu calmed "Do you know what it was like watching his finally moments? You know he didn't die immediately.. It was long and brutal, lasted almost and hour could you believe that." she huffed up a laugh like a crazy person. She smiled "Well, I didn't expect less from you, the best child hunter slash assassin." Agu walked around the bed, scratching the iron with her long manicured nails. "I still don't expect less from you my child!" 

"You killed my mother. Now we're even, let us go!" Efe pleaded, seeing as something was going through Agu's mind.

"Why can't you just stay put? Yes I killed someone you love but that doesn't make us even." Long fingers ran down Efe's face. "I long for us to be together like in the days past. Come back to me"

"No. Let us go and we'll disappear. You'll never see us ever again.. We will go far away. The mountains.. If possible." Efe watched Agu take up a revolver from a desk she never noticed before. She shook her restraints trying to break free "Please you don't have to do this.. Please pleasee" She cried. Her eyes tightened.

"No I have to." She pointed the firearm at Efe with one hand then pulled the trigger.

Click.

The chamber was empty.

"I guess it's not your time." The gun came down. " Efe, the only way for you or David to be free of me is through death."

Efe glared at her, talking her through was useless. "You will become my soldier again soon. I guarantee it!"

"We will neve…" Efe began but her sentence was cut shut be the bullet to her thigh. She gritted her teeth, willing herself not to scream from the burning place. Efe breathed harshly through her mouth, tears swam in her angry eyes. 

"Lesson number one, 'Do not ever talk back to me child' " 

Efe could only keep glaring at Agu. "You learn fast" Agu turned to leave the room.

"You will have to kill me because I will never be under your control ever again! I promise you I will escape." 

"I know!" Agu sighed "I wish it didn't have to come to this" She fired all the bullets in the revolver into Efe's legs. This time, paralyzing her for real. Efe passed out from the unbearable pain. "Make sure you kill me IF you escape"

"I will" Rage replied.
