Thirteen

"I now know who the little Aura girl is!"

They both snapped their heads in her direction.

"She's me from six years ago!"

Before Efe woke up,

Everything suddenly went dark and quiet in her head, she walked forward a bit. As she didn't know where she was going, she stopped and stretched her arms out, waving them around trying to touch something but found nothing. The dark wasn't one of her favorite places.

"Hello??!!" Efe screamed. "Hello??! Is anyone around?" "Please somebody, I need light help please!! It's too dark! I'm afraid" her panicked state drew tears.

Efe sat down and closed her eyes, she tried to keep calm. It wasn't working! Her breathing hitched again. It was becoming hard to breath, as if the air was getting thinner and thinner with each hoarse breath she drew. She laid on the ground, uselessly wasting away.

"Ayo!" She semi yelled mistakenly releasing all the air in her lungs. They disappeared as soon as they left her mouth.

Efe was suffocating!

Then she felt as if something came out of her, she could not tell what it was. She could not even think at that moment until she saw a girl. Glowing black and red in smokey floating colors, she was smoke but she touched Efe's face. Her eyes scanned the smoke girl that had her face.

"Breath.." The little Efe whispered. "It's all in your head! You can't die here unless you want to"

Efe still continued struggling for air.

"No one will stop your mother if you do.. not... Get Up!" Little Efe hit the floor beside Efe's face as she raised her voice at her.

Just then, Efe drew air back into her and light burst forth from nowhere. Efe got up from the floor still trying to steady her breathing but at the same time she wanted to get a look around the massive field they were in.

It was Afternoon, the sun was hot but not enough to make her sweat and the neatly trimmed grass spread out for miles and miles and miles.

Before she was breathless, now she was totally speechless. A million questions ran around as thoughts but none rolled off her tongue.

"Mmm hmm" Little Efe cleared her throat to get Efe's attention. "I'm Efe nice to finally meet you!" Little Efe spoke after she got it.

"I'm Efe too. What is this place?"

"Your mind. Like I said, it's all in your head! I can't really talk to you when your awake because you are always in control but right now you are calm and asleep that's why I have to talk to you now before you wake up." Little Efe sat on the floor along with Efe.

"So my mind is an empty field! I must really not know anything" Efe laughed and so did little Efe.

"Not really, can you focus?" She asked

"Yes" Efe replied "what is it you want and who are you?"

"I'm you! Well I'm your power. It's not easy to explain sha." She scratched the back of her scattered hair. "I'm rage and I need you to know that we are two different people in one body right now. It is not supposed to be so but because of what happened to you when you were my age, it is." The girl explained

"So you are trying to say what exactly?" Efe could not grasp everything she was hearing

"I need to grow up to your current age so that I, being your power, can function well and for that to happen you need to practice. Eventually though we will merge into one as it should be and become stronger than now."

"Okay okay okay." Efe was starting to understand some things. "What kind of things should I do to make you grow? Can you fly? I mean should I go and jump from Ayo's roof" Efe joked.

"Don't be stupid! You can't fly, you're not Superman or Shazam. If you jump and I can't heal you fast enough, you... We both die. Try not to think about only you when you're making decisions." Little Efe advised.  "Do anything that pushes us to use strength or seems difficult. You are stronger than you think though"

"Okay... I'll see what I can do about that."

"And... You need you to understand that I'm my own person and it is not nice when you or Ayo talk about 'controlling your power'! We have to learn to work together until we merge. Okay?"

"Yes. Okay"

"You can wake up now." She smiled at Efe

"How?"

"Close your eyes and count to ten"

"One... Two... Three... Four..."

"Five..."

"Six..."

"Seven..."

"Eight..."

"Nine..."

"Ten!"

She woke up!
