Thirty Seven: Final Chapter
Previously:
"I'm Grace Madabuchi. Are you the family of David Richards" Efe paled."Yes. We are" Ayo spoke up when Efe didn't. He glanced at her.
"The surgery was a success. David has been moved to the ICU and can only receive one visitor at a time. Who will be his first."
"She will." Tosin replied. "Efe, we are right here" Her eyes darted to Ayo for support. He only gave a firm nod, holding up a tight lip smile.

"We'll be keeping a close eye on him because of his unique case so expect him to be here for sometime. Anyway, we can't be sure about most things until he wakes up" The doctor filled Efe in on other details which she zoned in and out of. The ICU seemed very far away from VIP waiting room.
"He was calling out for you all through the surgery" At that she listened. "You are Efe right?"
"Yes I am." Efe replied "I'm his sister" She added, remembering the incident at the mall.
"I know I read his file" Grace smiled softly. She was beautiful, her wig left out few stands of hair from the messy bun on her head and a red stethoscope complemented her pale green uniform.
"Will he be okay?" Efe finally asked. "No side effects from the surgery right?"
"If you mean his powers, we can't be sure yet. Don't worry, A handful of doctors signed a confidentiality agreement. Your secret is safe with us." Grace smiled again. Stopping in front of a large glass window. Efe looked around. She didn't notice when they walked into a secluded part of the hospital. 'Is this a different wing?' She wondered until her eyes saw David. He laid in a white hospital cloth on the other side of the glass hooked up with tubes and wires to machines. Her heart broke.
"I should have killed James myself" she frowned.
"What!? Umm.. I'll leave you now." Grace slipped out of sight.
Efe sighed, looking at her brother's soft features. She laughed at an old memory then wept at the sight in front of her.
Two Weeks And Four Days Later.
David pulled off the oxygen mask from his face. It dug his skin. He opened his eyes for the first time since the incident. The room he laid in had a 3d brick wallpaper covering a whole wall, then sofas and a round table were scattered in style at the same corner where the tv hung. The wall clock struck three minutes after two in the bright room. He squinted to get used to it. 'How long was I out?' He wondered. "Where is Efe?" His throat felt sore and he almost didn't recognize his rough voice; he checked to see if her stuff laid around but found nothing. David dropped his head back on his pillow. The light was still too bright for his eyes; he looked at the curtain, trying to move it with his mind.
It didn't work.
"The heck..." Alarmed. He tried again and again and again. Still nothing changed. He rested his head. 'Look on the bright side, now you're normal. Enjoy it ' He cheered himself.
David didn't have the energy to be sad or happy about his situation. He was overjoyed at the fact that he wasn't dead. When he closed his eyes to rest, the door swung open. Ayo walked in with a handful of bags, his phone was pressed to his ear by his shoulder as he kicked the door close. David watched him, hover around the room.
"Yes, I know. I carried your flashdrive so don't look for it. I'll see you soon" Ayo ended the call.
"I guess you're 'the Ayo' " The bed rose to a sitting position. David cocked his head. "I take it, my sister will be here soon." His accent rang clear.
