Ten...

"By the way, who was the girl from last night?" He remembered

"Wait..  What girl?" Her eyes widened.

"Uhmm... You know na. The little girl that looks like you, she was worried sick last night when you wouldn't wake up" Ayo took his plates to the sink along with Efe.

"Ayo I have no idea what you're talking about" Efe frowned. What girl? Wait why does the idea of a younger me sound familiar? She thought.

"I was here cleaning up the plate you broke when you were proving stubborn..." He pointed out the last part "..then I heard you scream. When I got to the room, she was there... holding you in her arms. She was made out of the same thing that formed your weapons. You know na"
She tried to remember something from last night but she did not remember anything after she finished eating. She didn't even know how she got to the room.

"Sorry about your plate... I'm sure you had no problem carrying me to the room." He laughed at her. They walked back to the kitchen.

"Carry ké" he eyed her "I dragged you oh" he laughed again.

"Wow! Seriously…" She looked at herself "You're not a gentleman" she teased.

"Mumu, I'm gentleman enough to let you stay in my house" he bragged with a wink.

"Let's fight so I will beat you" she pushed him aside to keep the cups in the cupboard. They both laughed.

"What were you even dreaming about that got you so scared? Honestly I was afraid too oh when you stopped breathing because..."

Efe could hear Ayo's voice but she couldn't make out what he was saying. He smiled at her then continued talking not noticing any change. She heard a school bell ringing. The clang resounded in her ears as her dreams came back to her. Her past flashed before her eyes just like they did the night before.
Helpless. Pained. Anger.
That's how she felt.

Her hands shot in front of her for some support as her memories overwhelmed her again. They found the fridge and held on as her body slid down to the cold tiles.
It started when she was little.
She remembered...

Time: 3: 19 pm
Date: 21st January,     .
Place: St. Michaels school.

She'd always hated bullies.
She'd always defended her little brother.

A hot afternoon, Efe was playing with her brother after school. Rocking him on the swing, careful not to push him too hard so he wouldn't fall as they waited for their father to pick them up.
David was laughing so hard and wiggling his legs so much that his oversized sandals came off.

She stopped the swing and went to pick them up to put in her school bag. When she turned back to her brother, Cynthia, her classmate, the spoilt rich brat of the school was at the swing where she left her brother. Cynthia drew the swing so far back then left it to go high up knowing fully well that the little boy couldn't hold the chains well. Before Efe could run to him, he fell in the sand and started crying.
The evil bully just laughed with her friends at David's bleeding forehead.

"Cynthia what is wrong with you? Do you want to kill him!" Efe shouted at her classmate. She had already tied her big white handkerchief on David's head, now he was eating cabin biscuits from her bag.

"I wanted to oh" Cynthia laughed again with her followers "See his big ugly head just like his poor mother and ugly father" Efe had had it with the girl.

The kind of hatred she felt for the girl was immeasurable. Cynthia picked on her everyday, insulted her mother and always beat her brother. Her eyes glowed red, Cynthia lifted up the ground. David stopped eating as everybody stopped laughing and started moving back. The play ground was now packed with jss students.
Cynthia cried and threw her legs around in a feeble attempt to escape but it wasn't working. She floated closed to Efe until they were staring eyeball to angry eyes. She couldn't move any longer. Cynthia felt like a giant snake was crushing her. David watched Cynthia silently.

"I should just kill you here" Efe spat very darkly. Just when Cynthia was about to go unconscious. Someone slapped Efe dragging her out of her trance. David shook his head as if to clear his vision too. The body in front of her fell to the ground with a thud and scratched around for air. Nobody moved a muscle to help as Efe turned to the person who dared to touch her, her anger faded into realization when she saw her father, Mr Richards, the Town's Drunk.
He was the kind of man who would do anything for a bottle of alcohol.
Efe picked up her old school bag, rushing into her Father's beat up old volvo with David.

Ayo shook her. He had been calling her name for more than ten minutes. She clearly wasn't okay, from the way she was sweating, that much was obvious. He grabbed her arms to raise her from the ground when she finally acknowledged his presence but they were very hot.

She was having a fever.

'What the hell could she be seeing now?' He complained as he hurled her into the bathtub filling with cold water.
