He had been climbing for almost an hour now, and the cold was beginning to set in. (Y/N) could now see his breath before him, but only just. The snow was hitting him dead in the eyes, and at this height, it would only get worse. The summit - and what he was looking for - was not far. He could barely feel his legs. But he had to keep going, to find out the truth about himself.
Years ago, when he was still a boy, his father, (F/F/N), came to him and told him there was something he needed to see. There, in the little garage, was a craft unlike anything he had ever dreamed of before. It was small, for a spacecraft, with a small, open pod at one end. His father told him that this was the ship that brought him to Earth - he was not of this world. (Y/N) took it surprisingly well. This explained why, when he blew on a bowl of soup, it froze. Why, when he felt sad or angry, his (E/C) eyes began to turn red. Why he could hear things nobody else could. Why he could see through walls. He was alien, and he wanted to know more.
He had spent years searching for this place, this place that would give him all the answers. And here it was, not 6 feet above him. With one final push, he grabbed with both hands and pulled himself onto the summit. Right before him was a doorway. It was empty, undisturbed, quiet. A place of solitude. He began to walk inside the place, coming into a large, empty room, with many doorways adorning the walls. In the one straight ahead, he could see a light. Deciding that it was worth a look, he crept inside, careful not to disturb the area around him. The hall got thinner and thinner, until it was only about as wide as (Y/N) was tall. There, large black pods began to open before him, revealing outfits and jumpsuits not of this world, but they all had one thing in common: a large S on the chest. At the end of the hall was a room, with two more black pods inside, along with dozens of clear crystals adorning the walls. It was a marvelous sight to look at, all these crystals reflecting light off one another. He inspected one of them, eyeing his own reflection inside of the crystal. But then he noticed something - no, someone - behind him.
"Welcome home, my son," The person said. (Y/N) spun around to face him.
"Who are you?" He said, his voice slightly hoarse after climbing the mountain.
"I am a projection of the consciousness of Jor-El," The man said. "Your father. You are Kal-El."
"Kal-El?"
"It's the name we gave you before sending you here. Though I sense you would prefer I use the name you were given, (Y/N)?"
(Y/N) nodded. "I want answers. Why am I here? What am I? Why did you send me to Earth alone when I was just a baby?"
"Let me tell you a story," Jor-El said. "Your mother and I lived on a planet called Krypton. It was an amazing world, teeming with life. But that life came at a cost. Our race began mining the core of Krypton for resources. I advised them against it, but ultimately our race was swayed by my rival, General Zod, leader of our armies. Zod never looked at the consequences of his actions, and soon enough our world began to destabilize. It was around this time that your mother gave birth to you. You were the first natural birth on Krypton in centuries, a symbol of hope, " He said, gesturing to one of the now-open pods in the room. Inside was a red and blue suit, just the right size for (Y/N), with that same S upon its chest.
"That's what this means?" He said, referring to the S.
"It does."
"What happened next?"
"Zod knew about you, and he knew what you represented. So, he tried to kill you. I held him off while your mother placed you in a ship and sent you to Earth. Shortly after, Zod was arrested and sent to one of our many prisons across the universe. But our world died still. You are all that remains of our race, Kal." Jor-El paused. "Now, you are stronger than you ever could have been on Krypton. The people of Earth will hail you as a god."
"They've made their choice. I'm no god. I'm a monster," (Y/N) said, remembering how all the kids at school made fun of him for being different.
"Do you really believe that, Kal?"
(Y/N) didn't respond. Instead, he put on the red and blue suit. It fit like a glove, matching every muscle in his body.
"Why am I so different from them?"
"Earth's sun is younger and brighter than Krypton's was. Your cells have drunken it's radiation, strengthening your muscles. Your skin, your senses. Earth's gravity is weaker, yet it's atmosphere is more nourishing. You've grown stronger here than I ever could have imagined. The only way to know how strong is to keep testing your limits. You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you. They will stumble. They will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."
-----
(Y/N) exited the fortress and looked up at the sky. He watched as the snowflakes circled around his body as he tensed his legs, ready to take a leap of faith.
'Just jump, (Y/N). Physics will do the rest,' He thought to himself. He closed his eyes, and leapt. What happened next was more exhilarating than anything he had ever experienced. He flew up, then came down again, making a small crater in the ground. He leapt a second time, then a third, and then a fourth. On the fourth attempt he reached his fists in front of himself, using them to guide his path. He passed through a cloud, laughing with joy. But as he went higher, he lost control of himself, and fell to the ground uncontrollably, crashing into one of the nearby mountains.
(Y/N) placed a hand on the rim of the crater he had created, pulling himself up out of it. He slowly walked forward before looking to the sun. Closing his eyes, he kneeled down onto the ground, placing his fist flat on the packed snow. As his muscles tensed, the rocks and pebbles began to flow out from underneath him. Finally, with an earsplitting bang, he shot himself into the sky. He went up, then levelled out, breaking the speed of sound. He could barely hear the wind in his ears. He flew across the African plains, splitting herds of animals as he sped across the landscape. He descended right above the ocean, causing another sonic boom as the water beneath him formed waves that followed his every move. He flew through canyons, using his fists to direct himself around the massive stone walls. He smiled with great joy as he rocketed up, and up, and up, until the sky turned black and the world turned round. He flew back down, breaking the speed of sound yet again.
