The blade was pulled out of Vision's abdomen and he was thrown across the room. Wanda tried to use her powers to stop the attacker, but she was hit with an energy blast from another individual. The first one placed his weapon on Vision's head, on the stone in his forehead. She realized they were coming for it.
Wanda used her powers to knock the attackers off Vision. The flew into one of the fortresses' ice walls, creating a dent in the structure. Wanda lifted Vision off the ground, carrying him to safety outside the fortress. Their attackers approached Wanda, weapons drawn.
Wanda was getting ready to fight the two of them, when she noticed a figure standing in the back of the fortress. The attackers noticed she was looking behind them, and turned, seeing the figure as well. one of the two attackers threw her weapon at the figure, who expertly dodged it and stepped into the light. It was Steve Rogers, Captain America.
From behind where Wanda was standing came Sam, knocking one of the attackers back. Natasha ran in and blitzed the other, forcing them back. Steve tossed the weapon to Natasha, who stabbed one of the attackers with it, causing him to yell in pain. The other one took her weapon back, using it to attack Natasha, but Steve protected her, throwing the attacker back and causing her to drop her weapon. Sam drew his weapons and aimed them at the two attackers, lying on the ground just outside the fortress.
"We don't want to hurt you. But we will," Natasha said.
"You'll never get the chance again."
A beam of blue light enveloped the two attackers, carrying them to a ship that had appeared in the sky. They were drawn in, as were their weapons.
Steve helped Vision stand.
"Thank you, Captain."

The team boarded the quinjet. Sam was piloting, and after a moment the jet lifted off the ground.
"Where to, Cap?" He said.
"Home. Contact Bruce Wayne, too. He'll need to hear about this."

Proxima Midnight stood before the hologram of Ebony Maw. The two of them, along with Corvus Glaive and Cull Obsidian, had been sent by their master to retrieve the two infinity stones that were on Earth.
"Have you found the stone?" Ebony asked.
"This world is divided. No protectors here. No lanterns, no Kryptonian. It will fall, like all the others, in his name."
"That doesn't answer the question."
"The stone was robbed from us. We are preparing our forces to launch a second attack on the stonekeeper."
"Understood. Cull will join you."
"He will be pleased with us."
"For Thanos."
"For Thanos."

The quinjet landed right outside the Avengers compound. Sam and Wanda helped Vision inside, as Steve and Natasha took the lead. They made their way to the briefing room, where Rhodey was speaking via hologram to Secretary Ross.
"Arrest them," he said to Rhodey.
"I'm on it," He said, then ended the call. "That's a court marshal. Wow. You guys really look like crap. Must have been a rough couple of years."
"The house wasn't exactly the best," Sam joked.
"Sam. Please. Words hurt," Came the voice of Bruce Wayne from the other side of the room. He and the other members of the Justice League were standing in the doorway, opposite to Steve's team.
"I think you all look great," Came the voice of Bruce Banner from the other end of the room. "Yeah, I'm back."
"Hi Bruce," Natasha said.
"Nat."
The room fell silent. "This is awkward," Sam whispered.

Steve was showing the rest of the group a picture of the two people who had attacked Vision.
"You're saying they tried to pry the stone out of his head?" Wayne said.
"This can only mean one thing," Diana said.
"Thanos?" Banner asked her.
"You know who Thanos is?"
"He attacked a ship I was on. Thor..." He trailed off.
"Who is this 'Thanos,' Diana?" Steve asked.
"I don't know much about Thanos. What I do know is that he wants to wipe out half of all life in the universe, continue his brother Darkseid's work. If he gets all of the infinity stones he'll be able to do it with a snap of his fingers."
"How many does he have?" Wanda asked.
"Two. He had one when he came to Thor's ship, and took the Tesseract from Loki."
"The Tesseract?" Victor asked. "It's an infinity stone?"
"You know the Tesseract?" Banner asked.
"It created me."
"We have to assume he's fought hundreds of beings before, right? On the other world he's wiped out, and we have to assume he's won," Barry said.
"I don't care how many he's fought in how many hells. He's never fought us. Not us united," Wayne said to the group.
"So we have to play a game of keep-away with a genocidal alien, is that it?" Arthur asked.
"No, we have to destroy the stone," Vision, who had been quiet the whole meeting, suddenly said. "I believe that, if it were exposed to a strong enough energy source, similar to its own, its molecular integrity would fail. Wanda, you have the power to destroy the stone."
"And you with it."
"Not exactly," Banner said. "If we could get the stone out of him first, parts of Vision would still be left. His consciousness is complicated, to say the least, but the stone is just one part of it."
"Can you get it out?" Steve asked him.
"Not here. I can't."
"What about you, Victor?"
"I don't know. I've never worked on a machine as complicated as Vision before. But if I had some help, I could do it."
"Well then. Who can help us?" Natasha asked.
"I know a guy," Steve said.
