(Y/N) floated down outside the front door of his mother, (M/F/N)'s house. Realizing he was still wearing the suit Jor-El had given him, he quickly put his regular attire on over it: a white tee covered by a button-down plaid shirt and jeans. Still adjusting to the pants, he knocked on the door.

"Just a moment!" (M/F/N) called from inside the house. A few seconds later she opened the door. "(Y/N)!" She exclaimed, pulling him into a tight hug.

"Hey Mom," He replied.

She released him from the hug. "Come in, I'm sure you have something to ask me about."

(Y/N) stepped inside the house and sat on the couch in front of the TV. He had sat on this couch many times, watching whatever was on with his mother and father. (M/F/N) followed shortly after, carrying two glasses of water. (Y/N) took a sip, then spoke.

"Not ask. I have something to tell you."

"Oh? And what is that?" His mother inquired. Ever since his father, (F/F/N) had died during the Chitauri invasion of Earth, (M/F/N) was his go-to for talking about his origins.

"I found something. A place, a sort of fortress. Inside was a copy of my biological father's consciousness."

His mother placed a hand over her mouth, smiling, but tears were forming in her eyes.

"Everything ok?"

"Yes, yes, I'm just so happy for you," she replied, her voice starting to break. "Go on. What happened next?"

"Well, he told me that I'm from a planet called Krypton. And he explained why I'm special, why I have powers, and then he showed me how to use Earth's gravity to make me fly."

"Wow," his mother breathed.

"I finally know where I come from, Mom."

"And I couldn't be happier for you. (F/F/N) would be so proud of you."

They hugged each other, but were broken apart when the current broadcast, a rerun of some sitcom, was interrupted by a news report.

"This is CNN breaking news. The city of Sokovia in Europe has been destroyed due to the Avengers' failure to stop a rogue artificial intelligence called Ultron from using the city as a doomsday device. The crisis has been averted, but not without loss of life, as hundreds, maybe even thousands, were killed. No word yet on how the Avengers are taking this."

The report continued on from there, but (Y/N) didn't care. (M/F/N) could see that her son was troubled by this, but she couldn't tell why.

"What's wrong, honey?"

"I could have helped them. I could have stopped this from happening."

"(Y/N), you're not invincible. You would have died."

"You don't know that, Mom. What if I hadn't gone to that mountain? Huh? What if I had went and helped them stop this 'Ultron' from destroying Sokovia?"

"There are some things we can't change, (Y/N), no matter how hard we try."

"I won't let anything else like this happen. I'm going to help them."

"What?" she was clearly shocked. Up until now (Y/N) had blamed his father's death on the Avengers, and now he had suddenly changed his opinion.

"I'm going to join the Avengers."

"But your father-"

"My father would have wanted me to do this. Jor-El said that I would help humanity accomplish wonders. But I'm not the only one who has to that."

(M/F/N) nodded. "You're right. You should help them protect our world. You will be a valuable asset to their team."

"I love you, Mom. I always will."

"I love you too, my son."

(Y/N) got up and walked out the door. His mother watched him and waved goodbye to him. (Y/N) tore open his shirt, revealing the gleaming red S symbol, then leapt up and flew away.
