'You didn't break me, I broke me. Because I believed in something that wasn't real.'

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"It's probably just Billy drunk again," Max scoffed as she got to open the door.

"I'll get it," Lucas said nudging her away from the door. Max loved when her boyfriend got protective of her even though she never admitted it.

"Mike?" the two teenagers exclaimed in unison as their friend stood at the doorway, soaking wet with his eyes red and veins popping out of his forehead.

"You bitch." he mumbled with his teeth gritted, stabbing Max with his glare.

"Woah, man. Chill out!" Lucas placed his palm against Mike's chest to stop him from going off at his girlfriend.

"How could you? How could you, you piece of shit?!" he roared, trying to get out of Lucas' grip as Max backed away.

"What are you talking about?"

"Cut the bullshit, Max. I know you told El about the bet,"

"I didn't!"

"Stop fucking lying!"

"Alright, that's enough, Mike!" Lucas yelled, now standing in between the two. "It wasn't Max who posted it, okay? It was Stacy,"

"What?" Mike shook his head. Of course. God, I'm so stupid, he scolded himself. "She's so dead," he said to himself as he exited the house.

"Where are you going?!" Lucas called after him into the rain.

"To murder Stacy!" Mike yelled back, not bothering to turn around.

"Do you really think she's the one you should be going after?"

Mike stopped his tracks, spinning around. "W-what do you mean?"

"What about Eleanor?"

That's when he froze. All he kept thinking about was getting revenge on the person who told her about the bet thinking their the one who ruined what Eleanor and he had but who really ruined it was himself. He's the one who agreed to bet on people's feelings in the first place and lie to her about it throughout their relationship. When all she did was love and care for him in return. And worst of all, he broke their promise, he let her go. He could've stopped her but he didn't. He let her go.

"I let her go..." he whispered, pain eating him alive.

"I let her go," he repeated sobbing and falling on his knees. Lucas and Max rushed to his side, Lucas pulling him into a tight embrace and Max rubbing his back.

"I'm a horrible person, Lucas. I let her go. I promised I won't but I did. I'm a heartless monster."

"No, Mike you're not."

"Yes, I am. Everybody were right. I don't deserve to be loved."

"C'mon, Mike. That's not true."

"Lucas' right," Max pinched in. Mike and Lucas looked up at her with wide eyes. Max and Mike hated each other, and that's not news. But they were always there for one another when they need them the most. Their friendship was complicated but that doesn't mean they didn't love each other.
