The Warrior and Preda stood in the hangar of Arcadia, Gallifrey's second city and main dry dock. One thousand TARDIS operators stood in formation, with one hundred battle TARDISes behind them.

"Listen up everybody," the Warrior called out.
"We are your new commanding officers. I am the Warrior, and you already know Preda. You will NOT call me Doctor.
We will not tolerate insubordination. However, if you have any good ideas, please tell me or Preda. We value innovation. The Daleks may be capable of it, but in practice only their commanding officers use it. As long as you don't disobey orders, I encourage you to be creative. This will give us an advantage over the Daleks, who in practice are little more than mindless drones."

"Our mission is to go back to Skaro before it was destroyed," said Preda. "The Daleks are getting more desperate. They have been trying to send agents back to stop its destruction. If they succeed, they will have a massive addition to their fighting force."

A hand went up.
"Yes, question," Preda said.

"Why did we destroy Skaro in the relative present? Why didn't we just go back and blast it to rubble before the crust had even finished cooling?"

"Because of the Eye of Discord," Preda replied. "The Daleks would easily have been able to undo any such change in the timeline before it caught up to them. We believed that the Eye was on Skaro in the relative present. If it had been, it would have exploded backward through time when hit with the supernova cannon and erased the Daleks from history."

"Our objective is to seal the transduction barrier around Slaro," the Warrior said, "so that no Dalek can get out before the planet is destroyed. We already have a blockade in the time vortex to stop Daleks from going back to the planet, but it's only a temporary solution. The Daleks will find a way through sooner or later. If we don't stop them, they will gain a huge advantage. If we botch the job, it will create another paradox, and we already have plenty of those. There are rumors of interdimensional cracks, temporal anomalies, and causality loops large enough to swallow entire star systems, and I don't want to make them true."

He paused to let that sink in.

"The Daleks have a Taranium mine on the edge of the central bulge of the Seriphia Galaxy. They are using it to build a device that will prevent us from reaching Skaro. We must capture or destroy it first."

"Let's get a good night's sleep," Preda said, "for tomorrow we move out!"
