The hallway ahead was long, dim, and empty. The walls were made of a featureless gray metal, just barely reflective enough for the Warrior, Preda, Braxnil, and Romana to see their blurry images in the walls.

"Everyone put on one of these," the Warrior said, as he passed everyone a silver bracelet. "They're the most advanced personal cloaking devices yet. We'll be completely invisible except to each other. Don't lose them."

Preda smirked. "Don't worry," she said as they put them on. "We won't lose your fancy jewelry."

"Good," the Warrior replied. "Because my 'fancy jewelry' is all that stands between us and every Dalek on the planet."

"Back on Gallifrey people wear pieces of Dalek casings, especially Dalekanium, as trophies," Braxnil said. "Several Daleks got into the Capitol when you got on to the Cruciform. Chancellor Paradon had their Dalekanium melted down and made into the headdresses for the high council."

"What a waste of time," the Warrior said. "Making ceremonial gear out of the skeletons of their enemies instead of protecting the universe like they should be doing."

"What have you two been doing lately," Preda asked of Romana and Braxnil.

"Running, fighting, preventing the Daleks from getting the Key to Time," Romana replied. "We've also been saving as many innocents as we can. We helped Leela hide in the wilderness away from the Capitol. Rassilon doesn't like aliens."

"We also helped Irving Braxiatel escape the Nightmare Child," Braxnil said. "He almost didn't make it, he was trying to defend his collection."

"Yes, that does sound like my brother," the Warrior said.

"Wait, he's your brother," Preda asked in surprise. "I didn't know that!"

"I don't talk much about my family," the Warrior said, regretting mentioning he had a brother. "Looking back distracts from the task at hand."

"No it doesn't," said Romana. "It reminds us of what we're fighting for. We can't lose sight of that."

"No, you're right," he conceded. "But I don't think they would be very proud of me right now."

"Nonsense," Braxnil said. "You're fighting to save them. There's nothing wrong with that."

Just then a Dalek came into the hallway. They stopped immediately and tiptoed around it. The Warrior gestured for them to follow it. They did so, and it led into large room.

The room was circular, and slightly wider than a tennis court. The walls were lined with automatic sliding doors. In the center was a ring of consoles on a metal cone manned by Daleks. From the top of the cone sprouted a massive metal column that rose out of sight through a shaft in the ceiling.

Preda peeked over the shoulder of one of the Daleks and looked at a monitor. The screen showed the Dalek flagship and guard fleet rising above main city, then vanishing. They didn't have much time left.

She pointed at the screen, and the Warrior nodded. He pulled out the metal disk and and stuck it onto the control panel. A progress bar lit up on the device.

"Now," he said. They pulled out their weapons and blasted open all of the Daleks. As the progress bar reached fifteen percent, the battle TARDISes materialized around the perimeter of the room, projecting a force field around it.

"So far, so good," said Preda. But she spoke too soon. Outside the force field, the metal walls were blown away, joining the surrounding hallways and rooms together into one massive chamber.
Inside this chamber were thousands of Daleks. They had a rift opened up, out of which streamed more and more Daleks from the future. The ones at the front were armed with long black cannons ending in razor sharp points.
