Anya was writing down the answers as fast as she could, trying to rather save time for the oral part where she would talk about her final thesis. She could hear that Viktor was doing the same, sitting few meters away from her, his own pen sliding over the paper even faster than hers.
They had two hours for the written exam, but none of the professors were surprised when they both handed in their papers after an hour.
They gave them 30 min break to rest and to prepare for the next part. So Anya and Viktor decided to grab a quick coffee from the canteen and wait in the hallway. Anya wanted to go in as soon as possible to make sure she won't miss her flight in case the professors would decide to chat with her longer, as they usually did with students like her and Viktor.
They sat on the bench next to the classroom door.
- So you are still with the figure skater, huh?
- Yeah, but don't tell anyone please, his PR might then snipe us both somewhere in broad daylight.
She laughed and took a sip from her paper cup.
- I really wonder what you see in him. I kind of thought that---
But before he could finish, Anya's phone buzzed. She sighed, thinking that it's another call from the reporters, even though they were quite seldom now, but to her surprise, it was her dad. Viktor knew how strange such a call was and slid slightly closer to her to hear her dad as well, but his side was inaudible.
-Everything okay dad?
- Oh..... Are you both alright?!
Long pause as her dad was telling her something.
-Yeah, I understand, don't worry dad. I will send you the money right away, okay?
- No really it's not a problem, don't worry about it.
-Just, please.... Learn from it, okay?
-Me too. Bye, dad.
Anya hung up, sighed, and rolled her eyes.
- I really don't know how they managed to raise a child when they are both so irresponsible.
-I wouldn't give them that much credit, Anya. You practically raised yourself.
Anya laughed and finished her coffee in one long sip.
-So what happened?
-Their store got robbed. And the insurance company doesn't want to pay them. Because guess why? They didn't bother to have ANY kind of security there. No cameras, no proper locks, no alarm. They are just so....arrgghh. I was telling them to do it like thousand times!
-So they need money....
-Yeah....I mean dad was feeling really bad even asking me for it, but they have some orders that they need to fulfill not to lose their clients. And you know I don't care about money anyway. It's just that right now it's not ideal. I will send them what I have left from my last competition, plus my savings, but then I won't have enough for my first rent in the new flat.
-Oh, I didn't know you moved. But I guess it's no surprise, it's not like you tell anything to anyone without asking....I can lend you some money, it wouldn't be a problem. Or how about that figure skater, he must be loaded, no?
-No. It's fine. I will come up with something.
She closed her eyes, thinking about what options she had to get some good financial aid quickly.
As Viktor knew her pretty well by this point, he didn't say a word and let her be. After a moment she opened her eyes and sighed again.
