( Journey to Jen Chi )

Leaving at the first light of the day, I wave my goodbye to Phai and start my journey together with my horse Gray.

Riding past the Kingdom's gate, somehow I feel light. Like the burdens have left me. Lost in my thoughts thinking if this was the right idea, leaving my home kingdom to find out about this necklace far from here.

But I'll be back, my business in Fan Tan isn't yet done. I just need to know about what happen before I was born.

The journey to Jen Chi was 3 days far from Fan Tan, I check the cloth bag and saw a 3 read shiny apples, this isn't enough but I'm sure I'll find something on the way.

Feeling the heat of the sun hit my skin I knew I need to take some rest, it's past noon and I need to feed Gray so he had some energy.

We stop near a river. I drink some water and let Gray drink too, I even feed him the apple. He need it more than I do.

Looking at the river, I somehow find peace, reflecting the sun's light through the crystal water.

In the middle of silence Gray made a noise, I look at him and knew exactly what he meant. This animal sure do know when to know when we are going.

I pat his nose before sitting at his back.

"Let's go Gray"

Gray run through the grassy path, feeling the roaring wind brush my night eve hair. I remember the first time I rode a horse. I sit in front while mama was at my back, she was the one that's leading the horse.

I just laugh everytime mama makes the horse run. I sweap of the memory and continue on the path.

It was almost dark when I spotted a small village from the distance. Decided to stay for the night, I enter the village. Even late in the afternoon many town people are outside sharing foods and trades.

How can a small place be lively.

"I heard that"

I stop Gray from walking and look at the boy who talk. I didn't know I say that out loud. I didn't feel embarrassed but I did composed my posture.

"Isn't it rude to eavesdrop on someone?"

Keeping cool on, the boy laugh. He doesn't look old nor young, I think he was just about my age.

"Sorry miss, but you happen to be talking out loud that I heard even down here"

I look at him then tap my foot to Gray's side to continue walking. Ignoring the boy, I was hoping on having a rent of room to sleep for the night here.

"Ah-ah"

I stop again when he stand in front of my way. This time I glared at him which he ignores it. I'm totally annoyed now.

"For a new girl like you, I believe I can't let you past the gate without examining you first"

"What did you just say?"

"I said-"

"Shut up"

I cut him off when he again was about to say what he says moments ago. It's not like I don't get what he said, I'm just pointing why am I the only one who get examine? When there is a lot people enter the village gate.

The boy shouts hey when I enter the gate and look for someone I can ask were to rent  a room.

Without looking where I was going someone shout 'look out' I look in front of me and saw a little girl running my direction and a heavy wood fell off a tower just above the little girl.

I immediately jump off my horse and hear someone shout at my back. Hitting the heavy wood with my arm the girl immediately flinch like she didn't know what was happening until she heard the wood crash the ground.

The boy earlier came running and hug the little girl. Looking around everyone looks at me like I was some kind of a hero. I hate it, I don't like it when people were giving me attention.

"Chai, are you ok?"

He ask the little girl.

"I'm fine Kai, thanks to that lady"

I look at the little girl at the same time the boy look at me. He smiled at me then look back to the little girl.

"What do you say Chai"

The little girl run to me and hold my hands which made me flinch a little, I'm not use to this kind of gesture. Even Phai doesn't hold or hugs me.

"Thank you Miss Lady"

I only path her head and she run off again like nothing almost happen to her. Such spirit.

With a presence of notice I look at the boy who is already looking at me.

"What?"

"Thank you for saving my little sister, sometimes she's a little bit of carefree and doesn't notice her surroundings. But we love that little carrot"

He laugh again. And I walk back to were my horse at. Thankfully Gray didn't run off.

"Will, if you love your sister that much. Why didn't you teach her to be aware of her surroundings that way she won't get hurt by a falling wood"

Grabbing the rope, I was about to sit at his back when the boy talk again.

"I knew you are new here, what are your intentions here?"

"Just a place to stay for the night"

He clap his hand and put a big smile on his face. Dies this boy doesn't get tired of smiling?

"Perfect! My naynay owns a renting room, you can stay for the night!"

He cheerfully said.
