Pools of Blood, Clashing of swords, Screams of pain, everything scared him, everything made him shudder in utmost fear.

The prince pocked his head from behind his father's massive throne, covering his ears from the loud noises around him. He witnessed his father's guards yelling in rage as they charged towards their enemy, running their swords through the bodies of the latter.

The prince looked around him, carnages, blood, moaning men. . . He trembled in fear, knowing that one day, he would be the one to lead these deadly battles. He didn't want this, all he wanted was to be at peace, but his father thought otherwise. In the corner of his stormy grey eyes, he saw a little figure hiding in the corner of the throne room.

The prince tilted his head in confusion and approached the younger.

When he reached the place, he saw the boy crawled up in the corner, shuddering in fear.

"Please don't hurt me" the little boy cried, covering his face with his small hands.

"I'm not here to hurt you" the prince murmured as the boy removed his hands, revealing his face, covered in soot and snow. His hair red at the tips, littered with snow flakes. "Are you okay?" the prince asked.

"Yes" the boy whispered as his tears rolled down his dusty cheeks. The prince watched the boy press his knees to his chest, rocking himself.

"Don't be scared" the prince smiled, trying to be strong for the latter. "Where are you from?"

"The F-fire Kingdom" the boy looked up at the prince, noticing his white hair, grey eyes, pale skin and soft lips, dirtied with dust and blood. "You're from the Ice Kingdom. . . Please don't hurt me!" he backed away.

"No, I won't hurt you, I promise" the prince smiled and patted the little boy's head. "Come on, I know a good place to hide"

The two boys, got stood up together and ran through the palace halls. Muffling their screams whenever someone wailed in pain. The prince lent his hand to the younger and lead him towards his bedroom.

The young boy held onto the prince's ice cold hand, sending sizzling shivers down his spine.

When they reached the prince's bedroom, the prince ran inside with the boy and closed the large door. Inside, the prince pushed open another wooden door. "Father asked me to hide here incase anything happens"

The prince jumped in and held his hand out, urging the younger to join him, but they were too late.

The royal guards burst through the door.

"Your Highness!" they carried the prince out of the cellar and held him in their arms.

"My friend" the prince pointed towards the other boy, who backed up to a wall.

"Fire!!" a royal guard shrieked. "Protect the prince!" he said before he notched an arrow.

"No!" the prince screamed, but the razor sharp arrow whistled past his ears and embedded itself on the boy's weak thigh. "No!!" he yelled again, he was too late, the guards carried him away from the pool of blood of the weaker.

The guards carried him out of the palace, burying him deep in their chest as the cold wind hit his skin.

Tears pooled in his grey eyes as he was being placed in his mother's arms.

"My baby" his sick mother cried as she coughed, overjoyed to see her son unharmed.

"Mother" the prince buried his head and snuggled closer into his mother's embrace. It was the only place where he felt safe.

They reached a little wooden cottage covered in vines and flowers, hidden in the cold forests of the Kingdom of Ice. The Queen carried the prince in her arms as she walked into the cottage.

"You'll be safe here Your Highness" the General bowed to the queen and rode back on the carriage.

The Queen prepared the bed for her and the prince and fell asleep as soon as her heavy head hit the pillow.

I don't even know his name, the prince thought, before he too, fell into a deep slumber.

The prince awoke, when the soft rays of the sun hit his eyes. "Mom?" he tossed around, hoping to see his mother's beautiful face. He blinked twice when he saw that no one was there.

"Mom?" he panicked and shot straight out of bed and ran outside.

A sigh of relief escaped his lips when he saw his mother gazing at a wild bed of primroses. "Yellow as the sun, beautiful as the sea" his mother smiled as she realized her son was behind her.

The prince ran towards his mother and hugged her. "I thought you left me" he pouted.

"Why would I ever leave you, my prince?" the Queen smiled among her dry coughs. The color of her grey eyes, a few shades darker than the prince, had slightly faded. Maybe her age was at fault, or it could even be her incurable sickness. "Now why don't you run along with Midnight and wait until I prepare some breakfast"

The prince nodded and mounted his pony. "He knows his way back right, Mom?"

"Of course he does" his mother smiled. The prince would've waited for longer and enjoyed his mother's warm smile, if he had known what was to come.

Midnight, the little male pony, galloped off into the dark green forests and vines of thorns and flowers. He tugged at Midnight's reins, slowing his pace into a trot. "It's gorgeous" he marveled at the frost covered branches and wild flowers littered with a number of little snowflakes. The trees were never light green and summer nor spring ever arrived in the Kingdom of Ice. The beautiful warm seasons would make a turn around the Ice Kingdom and make their way towards the Kingdom of Earth and the Kingdom of Wind.

The prince reached a frozen lake at the end of the canopy of the trees painted in dark green sprayed with bits of snowy white.

He dismounted his horse and sat on the soft fluffy snow. He exhaled a deep sigh, sending puffs of warm smoke off of his lips. He gazed at the surrounding. The frostbitten yet dark trees. The little snowflakes that rested upon his pale skin. The watery icicles that almost reached the layers of snow. Little drops of rain that froze on their way down vines creating natural fairy lights. Small baby hares hopping about leaving footprints that dug into the fluffy cushy snow.

He looked behind him, finding the enormous pine trees that almost covered the little amount of sunlight that hit the snow bed.

"Mother must be done" he stood up and mounted Midnight again, who lead him towards the little wooden cottage they now occupied. He got off and tied his pony to the nearest tree and walked in.

"Mom?" he called, no response. "Mom??" he called again and curiously walked into the kitchen.

"Mom!" there, he found his mother, unconscious on the floor, crumbs of bread and cheese all over the place.

That was the last time, Prince Kang ever saw his mother again. . .
