Fix You – Coldplay
—————•—————

Dear Diary,

Everything has been going pretty good up until today, but I suppose that requires some explaining...

----------

For the past three months, I've remained in Moscow at an unknown facility run by a man I've never met. He's in with HYDRA, that's what Vasily Karpov told me as I left, and that was clearly enough for me to be comfortable taking orders from as masked man.

The reason for my relocation was to lead a new group of Russian men who are known as Wolf Spiders, they are technically HYDRA but the rest of the world assumes they each work on their own. For example, this is contrary to me in that everyone I've encountered seems to know that Winter Soldiers are trademark HYDRA weapons.

The Wolf Spider Operations Program has been around for only three years and I've only just now joined. Apparently, these men were going down the wrong path and needed some proper guidance in the right direction.

These men are tough, believe me, but they're nothing close to any Winter Soldier I've ever seen. It's no wonder that they want me to lead them, HYDRA wants me to teach them my ways.

Every single day since I've been here has been a new challenge for both me and my Wolf Spiders in training. I set up exercises and weapons training, marksmanship challenges, one-on-one fights with each other as well as with me. Each day is new and different so that none of them is anticipating something as if it were a pattern.

As far as I've been told, these men are being trained to complete missions equivalent to those I've been involved in and require rigorous daily reminders of their purpose.

Today was a board meeting with the trainers, all of whom are currently HYDRA, so that we could discuss the program as a whole.

"Мужчины, сегодняшняя встреча будет сложной. Я знаю, что вы все упорно трудились, чтобы довести эту программу до нынешнего состояния, но есть некоторые недостатки, которые были доведены до моего сведения, которые необходимо устранить (Men, today's meeting is going to be a difficult one. I know you have all worked hard to get this program where it is today, but there are some shortcomings that have been brought to my attention that must be addressed)," the masked man at the end of the table started. "Ты начинаешь (you, begin)," he pointed at the person next to me.

The man nodded quickly and began rattling off information that I'd never heard before. "Эта программа началась отлично, мы все это знаем, потому что это была единственная причина многих наших приездов в Москву (This program got off to a great start, we all know that much because that was the sole reason for a lot of our arrivals in Moscow)," he began. "Тем не менее, если мы посмотрим дальше на эффективность наших коллективных учений для молодых мужчин, выбранных для участия, становится ясно, что многое теряется при переводе. Другими словами, программа дает сбой (Yet, as we look further into the effectiveness of our collective teachings on the young males chosen to partake, it is clear that much is being lost in translation. In other words, the program is failing)."

We all gasped at the words he had spoken, as there had been so many things I thought he might have said but never once did I imagine that it would be verbatim that the program was an utter failure.

"В то время как некоторые из вас необычайно хорошо обучили избранных людей, просто слишком много участников-неудачников не могут назвать Программу «Волк-паук» успешной (While some of you have done extraordinarily well in teaching select individuals, there are simply too many failed participants to call the Wolf Spider Program a success)," the masked man added in anew. "Именно в этот момент я полностью отменяю программу. Все вы будете отправлены на исходную базу HYDRA в течение следующих двух месяцев (It is at this point that I will be cancelling the program entirely. You will all be sent to your original HYDRA base within the next two months)."

"Сэр, если можно, у меня есть вопрос (Sir, if I may, I have a question)," I slightly raised my hand and spoke without hesitation.

The masked man waved his arm at me and nodded in approval. "Продолжай (go on)."

"Вы упомянули, что только несколько участников добились успеха из многих отобранных. Я хотел знать, что вы будете делать с теми, кто не добился успеха (You mentioned how only a few participants were successful of the many selected. I wanted to know what you'll be doing with those that were not successful)," I wondered.

"Они будут казнены. Если они не могут функционировать должным образом, мы не можем просто позволить им свободно бродить с огромным количеством знаний, которыми мы им предоставили. Они должны умереть (They will be executed. If they cannot function properly, we cannot simply allow them to roam free with the immense amount of knowledge with which we've provided them. They must die)," he said without hesitating.

Then, without another word, he stood up and left, dismissing the meeting.

----------

I dont know why I had such high hopes for this program, perhaps it was because I was almost certain that it was a way out of the usual madness.

Either way, it doesn't matter anymore. By November, I'll be back in Siberia and acting out kill orders as HYDRA's metal fist yet again.
