Dear Diary,

It feels like I finally did something good in my life. Like everything up until this point, including the fact that HYDRA's been using me all this time, has been worth it.

After all, I have HYDRA alone to thank for these new skills I've acquired that I've been using all this time.

I was in the hallway on my way to the bathroom after dinner was delivered when Natalia's door opened. She ran up to me and kissed me on the lips, holding me there for a second before pulling away.

"What was that for?" I chuckled, asking quietly.

"That's a good question," she smirked at me in the dark. "What did you do?" she questioned, knowing on her own what the answer was already.

"Hmmm, are you talking about that thing you told me not to do but that I did anyway?" I smiled at her.

"James- yes," she grabbed my jaw and looked at me. "You found him, didn't you?"

"Nikolai?" I clarified, she nodded. "I tracked him down, left a note at his door with a warning on it, then shot him from a very far, very safe distance in a non-lethal location."

"Non-lethal, huh?" she raised an eyebrow at me suspiciously. "Where, exactly?"

"You know," I paused. "Maybe I aimed at his upper thigh and, uh... maybe I missed."

"You never miss," she looked down. "You shot him in the dick on purpose."

I shrugged. "Who knows? I'm just a soldier, I certainly don't know anything about such things."

She smiled and met my eyes again, proceeding to kiss me for a long time. "They backed down."

"They reached out to you again?" I squinted at her.

"Yes, they reached out to tell me that the engagement was off and that I was off the hook for the favor I owed them. I mean-" she sighed, relieved. "Thank God."

"He didn't save you," I placed my palms on her face and brought lips close to mine. "I did."

"I suppose you're right; it was you who did all the work," she kissed me briefly. "If there even is a God, he must be a cruel, merciless, inhuman creator to purposely put people like us through lives like this."

"So you don't believe either?" I wondered.

"I used to," she replied. "But it's hard to believe in a divine being who would allow such things to happen to young girls- to allow families to be pulled apart and lives like yours to be ruined. Do you?"

"I feel the same way you do," I told her. "I grew up practicing but I've since realized that He either doesn't exist or truly is so far from being human that He's- well, barbaric."

She nodded and ran her fingers up my arm. "So, what's the plan tonight?"

"The usual, I'm just about to shower- care to join me?" I kissed her, lining her lips with my tongue before she pulled away.

"You know I can't do that as much as I'd love to," she started walking back to her room. "It's risky enough meeting you in the hallway like this. But be quick, I'll be waiting for you."

----------

And like hell she was- not to mention she was completely naked when I pulled the covers off the bed.

The night was peaceful now that we knew we no longer had to worry about the KGB coming after her and taking her away.
