Kaden Prince
I woke up before Ethan, just like I thought I would.
What I had told Jonathan was true: Ethan tended to sleep a lot when he was emotionally exhausted. There are people who have insomnia when they're facing problems, but Ethan simply slept the whole day. I guess it was because, when we sleep, we forget about everything. And he wanted to forget for as long as he could.
He had kicked out the covers during his sleep, so I woke up feeling cold. He hadn't moved during the night, but I woke up completely sprawled across the bed, even if I had my arm back on Ethan's waist when I fell asleep again. Before leaving my room to eat something, I grabbed the covers from the floor and put it over him to keep him warm.
"Hm" He said when the fabric touched his skin. His eyes opened slightly, and he kept blinking, as if his eyelids were too heavy for him to keep his eyes open.
"Shhh" I kneeled in front of him "Go back to sleep" I whispered as I ruffled his blond locks softly.
"Are you leaving me?" He mumbled with his eyes closed; his voice sleepy while there was a furrow between his brows.
"No" I kissed the tip of his nose "Never" I pecked his lips tenderly.
"Okay" His furrow disappeared "Thank you"
And with that, he was back asleep. I stared at his features for a few moments, thinking about nothing and everything. I was so sad for Ethan. He was an amazing person who didn't deserve everything he had been through. If I could, I would take his pain away and make it mine. I was so enraged at Jack that I was scared of what I'd do the next time I saw him. This feeling was shared with Ethan's mother, Sarah. How could she do this? How could she be so mean to this wonderful boy in front of me?
All I knew is that I loved him so much, and his suffer was mine too. I leaned forward to press a kiss on his cheek before standing up to finally head to the kitchen. When I opened my door, though, I got face to face with my mom, who was probably about to go to work.
"Good morning" She smiled, and then her eyes flicked to behind my shoulders, where she could see Ethan laying peacefully on my bed "Kaden" She said sternly "You need to tell me when you're bringing him home"
"I know, I'm sorry, but-"
"You know I don't mind if he sleeps here sometimes" She continued "I think Ethan is a lovely boy, and I'm happy you two are dating, but I need to have the false sensation that I have some kind of control over this house"
"I know that-"
"And you know I don't mind you two... having sex if you're using protection," My eyes widened at her bluntness "but Dana sleeps next door, and I don't want your little sister to hear anything related to those... activities. Plus, Luke doesn't want to hear it too, and me neither-"
"Mom!" I interrupted her "Stop! I know I have to tell you when I want to bring him to sleep here" I acknowledged, since she had told me that after the first time he went to my house "But..." I looked behind me where Ethan was asleep, closing the door carefully so I wouldn't wake him up while talking to my mother "His mother kicked him out, okay? He had nowhere else to go"
"I unders- Wait. What?"
"Yeah" I sighed "His mother found out he's gay and kicked him out"
"Wha- What the hell does she think he is?!" She grimaced; her voice full of indignation "Does she think he's an object that she can just throw away when she doesn't want it anymore?! Hell no!"
"Mom, keep it quiet" I shushed her "I don't want to wake him up"
"Sorry!" Her tone didn't change. I raised an eyebrow at her, and she took a deep breath to calm herself down "Sorry" She repeated; her voice now even "I just can't believe a mother would do that to her son. And only because he's gay? That's nothing"
