Emma's POV
...
For as long as I could remember...
I had no ability.
Nothing.
I was the most normal girl in school.
But at the same time, I wasn't.
Because everyone else had their special power and I didn't, I was always the odd one out.
No ability to call my own.
My parents were mid-tiers. They were like your everyday people working regular jobs. My mom and dad were both employees for a business company.
I loved them with all my heart.
However, once others found that their daughter was a cripple with no strength at all, they started to view them differently. Some looked at my parents like they were filth that needed to be cleaned up immediately, while others looked at them with pity.
It was terrible.
And I knew it was all my fault.
If only I had been born just like them, I thought. Then maybe they wouldn't have to receive such awful backlash from certain people.
People from elementary school treated me the same way.
"Alright, kids!" My elementary school teacher clapped her hands together. "It's time to get into pairs. Today, we're going to be doing a fun activity before getting into our main lesson!"
"Hey, wanna be my partner?"
"Sure!"
All of the other students grinned and immediately knew who to get into groups of two with.
That is, except me.
"Does everyone have their partner?" The teacher asked. "Oh! Emma, do you have one?"
I didn't respond to her.
"Well, that's no good..." She crossed her arms, then turned to the rest of the students that were around her. "Does anyone want to be Emma's partner for today? Anyone?"
...
"Emma? You mean that weird powerless girl who barely talks?"
"What? No way! She's way too gross to hang around with, isn't she?"
"Geez, can't the class ever catch a break with her?"
"My dad said that people like us shouldn't associate ourselves with cripples..."
I knew it...
"Well then, Emma..." The teacher looked like she didn't know how to handle the situation. "I'll leave the choice up to you. Do you want to pair up with a group of two instead?"
I shook my head.
"No?" She sighed. "If you say so, I suppose..."
"See, Teacher? She doesn't even speak!"
"Yeah, how do you expect any one of us to pair up with her if she can't even communicate?"
I clenched my fists.
Don't get angry.
Remember. You're used to these kinds of things.
...
Middle school was even more of a pain.
Why? Students naturally become more violent and aggressive as they age.
